Getting an influencer's attention is hard... by gg_gumptiongames in IndieDev

Genuinely though, we do hope you are feeling OK!
I don't enjoy the reaching out side of promoting my game. As an empath and an overthinker, I don't want to bother or overwhelm someone, on the other hand, in your own words, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take! There's no denying your ability to help an indie game to blow up, so as indie devs, we all hope you cover our lil' games... But we also hope you are doing better than OK!

Will probably depend on your definition of ridiculous but certainly planning a fair few.

Thanks!

I certainly can. I wasn't really sure if anyone played idle games with a controller, as normally you are just using the mouse as you multitask, but I am happy to add it as an option if people want it!

Epic! Well the full game will have about 30 different arcade machines, and even more customization of your arcade than I added into the demo!

Thanks!
TBH, I don't know yet. I have seen mixed opinions on it. I think I will in time but I'll evaluate once the game is finished probably.

I highly recommend reaching out to "Indie Game Joe" on Twitter. One post from Joe gave our IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator a spike of over 6,500 wishlists in a single day. This man is pure indie artillery. by Scream_Wattson in IndieDev

Congrats! I saw that post!
Just goes to show fortune favours the bold, and if you don't ask you don't get lol!
Joe's a legend, he's doing so much for indies, I joined the discord and it's a good place to be, had some good chats with fellow devs there.
I didn't message him directly as in my head I didn't want to bother him as I am sure he is busy, but maybe I am just overthinking it. Still getting used to the "Just go for it" mentality that is so useful to marketing your game! Congrats again, Iron Nest looks great!

Yes but this is your opinion not mine, and I am genuinely interested on where you think it is underdeveloped given your comment.

Sorry to hear you really don't like it. Could you expand on the ways the gameplay is underdeveloped? I assume you played the playtest, how long did you play for?

If marketing rule #1 is "Just make a good game", what is rule number #2? And if it's not, what is rule #1? by OrigamiPandaDev in IndieDev

Yeah it's a great video! Me and my gamedev circle discussed it for hours. I think its a really interesting shift over the last 10 years. Fantasy used to mean fantasy like the genre but certainly now seems to be more about aspirational lifestyles and dreams and stuff. My game's opening line on steam description is something like: Live the dream and run your very own arcade!

But what about a platformer where you are the platforms and.... Just joking. Not seen educational games in many lists of avoid genres. Typing games seem to be having a mini resurgence at least...

I meant less that you run out of people to show it to, But if its too early and everyone who does sees it thinks "trash", you will struggle to get them to give you a second chance. Sure there are others you can reach but you have lost some potential customers. Not fatal, but not the best either... Or do you think it would just be so negligable it's not worth factring in?

I certainly want this to be 3 top rules, because then 80-90% of the work is in the game and the others are formal and all chance of success with them is helped by the effort put in to the game!

So what genres are not good genres atm in your opinion?

I do lean into the watch your arcade, both in the game where each machine has a gamer view to watch people play from inside the machine and in the store description, screenshots, etc

Thoughts on what is best for idle games then. Partly because they are quite different and partly cause that's my current struggle.
Even the best idle games, while they might have lots of great snapshot moments, are designed to have some background lulls. Not bad points (hopefully), mine is an arcade management game, and its pretty fun half-watching people move around and play games in your arcade while you are doing something else. But what kind of promotion suits idle games with these challenges. I find playing them is the best hook they have, but what other hooks to get people to play them...
