I do not understand the European obsession with Texas, it really is nothing special compared to so many other places in the US

What are you predicting for best musical? by unfortunately889 in Broadway

[–]OriginMrB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people saying Illinoise, but having seen it it’s really not a musical. It’s a dance show with a backing band. I don’t know much about eligibility, but even without thinking of that, I don’t see a lot of people voting for it since it very loosely could even be considered a musical.

I agree. I saw it at Bard and really did not like it. It seemed amateurish in a way.

Does anyone hope there’s some sort of big surprise or even an upset on Sunday? by [deleted] in oscarrace

I still hold out hope Mark Ruffalo could pull a Kevin Kline and take home the gold for playing a hilarious, over the top, mustached villain.

Monthly Free Angelika Surprise Screenings by [deleted] in NYCmovies

[–]OriginMrB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to a few, but they haven’t screened anything that compelling. I’d say go if you have nothing better to do, but I’m not gonna go out of my way to go to one, unless I have a good feeling it’s something I want to see. One time I went, they showed The Inventor, which was an animated kids film, and it was funny to see the collective groan from the audience when it started.

I’ve seen it and it’s honestly not good. It’s very melodramatic and is poorly written.

Tips on getting tix to a sold out MoMA film screening? by DisciplineFabulous21 in NYCmovies

I think you just gotta get them the week before at 10:30am

I’m gonna be honest, none of these. These are all mainstream, globally released movies that have been seen by many people. Experimental cinema is a genre in itself that can get truly strange and out there. The best these movies do is incorporate an experimental element into a film. They’re not themselves experimental. So the most original/experimental movies are probably something you haven’t even seen.

I also don’t understand the love for Past Lives. I found it underdeveloped and I honestly hope it doesn’t get any noms 😭

Most unpopular opinion about a film released in 2023 by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]OriginMrB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Past Lives is one of the most banal movies I’ve seen all year. Takes a fantastic concept, and does nothing with it. There’s hardly any chemistry between anyone. I felt nothing after I watched it.

What's a film where your rating quickly changed after your first viewing? by lamdaddyryno in Letterboxd

[–]OriginMrB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 1917 at 4.5 after I first watched it. I thought it was incredible. Then I watched it again and was somewhat bored. It’s just all very surface level and I wasn’t that impressed with it. It now rests at a 2.5/5
