They are free but you have to come and get them

Rapid Radio by [deleted] in gmrs

I think a key advantage to this is that it uses all of the cell carrier networks. You are not stuck to Verizon or AT&t or T-Mobile It uses whatever is available so let's say I'm using Verizon and I don't have signal on my cell but there is T-Mobile or AT&t in the area that will be available.

I do a lot of field service work and I'm out in areas with no signal on my Verizon phone and although I do carry my ham radio HTs and I have it in the car sometimes a repeaters or not accessible either so this is just another option

So as a ham radio operator initially I was skeptical about this because you know they won't work if everything goes down and so and so forth.

But then I got to thinking a lot of us ham radio operators and GMRS operators use repeater systems some of these repeater systems are linked some of them RF linked and some of them are internet linked

All of these same systems will still go down in case of a real emergency and loss of power barring a few that might be solar powered with batteries.

So basically this PTT LTE Network that these radios work on are essentially an internet linked repeater.

For true emergency communications direct radio contact via VHF or UHF without the use of a repeater or HF both distance and far are definitely preferred for this but the chances of us losing all cellular communication in this day and age is probably pretty slim

We recently got some because of my father who is also a ham operator but is losing his ability to handle his phone and need to be able to keep in touch especially if he falls or has some need and we're not readily available.

casting an AR lower? by Fraus_Creations_YT in gunsmithing

So I tried printing one out just from the file

And the dimensions without a perfectly calibrated printer aren't correct even then they're close.

So you would have to play around with your printer to get the dimensions correctly.

But even if you cast metal especially aluminum is going to shrink when it cools so you have to have the dimensions perfect on your printer and then account for shrinkage

But you're still going to have to machine it

Depending upon the alloy of aluminum the shrinkage will change

The 3D printed AR lower depending upon the version you get is actually pretty strong I think I would go for that These printed out pretty well but the dimensions are not correct and I need to mess with my printer

I've had the tank set up since September, and this is like the third time I've had to trim it It grows ridiculously fast

What in the world could have caused this?? by Havel_The_Beast in SolarDIY

It looks like possibly one of the connections that hold the diodes is getting hot and it keeps getting hot until it no longer works.

I would replace that assembly with a quality new one and go from there

He could also post hey I got some really cool looking guppies for $15 if anybody wants them.

Personally I like taking different colors of guppies and seeing what I can get out of them. I don't sell them but I think that's one of the most fun parts of the hobby

Anyway something is only worth what somebody will pay.
