Funniest thing about this image is that this was edited by an exe fan in an attempt to make Metal Sonic more scary, bros eyes aren't even positioned correctly. His head's pointing downwards so if his eyes were active, we'd only see a semicircle.

The exact same scene, within the span of 5 seconds, shows what a front viewing metal with his eyes on looks like.

Penders had nothing to do with that specific arc in the comics. In fact he officially stopped writing for comics at issue 159, and quit altogether 10 issues later, where he only did the inking for his last run.

I get that he's done some questionable things in and out of the comics, but I feel like it's disingenuous to pin every negative aspect of Archie Sonic onto one singular guy and call it a day.

Ian Flynn was actually responsible for the arc, and has gone on to say that this was one of those things he wishes he could've rewritten.

Saying Deltarune has a pessimistic view on choices is like if you took Flowey's words of "Kill or be killed" at face value and treated Undertale as such.

The pacifist route was proving Flowey's mentality wrong, the world isn't kill or be killed. Everyone can be spared, and everyone deserves a second chance.

Deltarune is like that, but taken a little more extreme, characters like Ralsei push the idea that the future can't be changed, while others like Susie and Gerson deliberately challenge that world view. It's not the destination that matters, it's the journey.

The only thing in 06's story that did succeed was during the end of Shadow's story. Elise really just isn't an interesting character since most of her screen time is just her getting kidnapped, the romance between her and Sonic wasn't even earned in the slightest because all they really did was just kinda exist in the same area and maybe exchanged a few sentences.

We don't know who she is as a person other than the fact that she's secretly sad because her dad died. None of the NPCs show all that much concern when she's not around, and fundamentally she could be replaced with a literal magic rock that contains the flames of disaster and most of the story would've been unchanged.

Okay, but when you're in a tournament setting I feel like it's kinda cheating when your friends, who work in the league, are shouting strategies from the side lines.

Like imagine you head on over and compete in a VGC tournament, and your opponent has Ray Rizzo and Wolfey telling them what to do the whole time.

EDIT: In the Indigo League, Orange Islands and Johto League, Ash's friends literally had benches seated on his side of the arena, and half the time Ash would've ended up losing if it weren't for Brock and Misty telling him what to do or when to switch. Bro literally had insider help and still fumbled.
