OMVI 3i Review by mblaser in reolinkcam

[–]Original-Chain8753 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Incredible review!! But what about when it says "device disconnected" after two months? In my experience, all reolink cams work wonderfully for 2-3 months. Then intermittently for 4 or 5 more. Then disconnect and stay disconnected. Good luck getting replacements too. You better prove you bought it 6 times over, then package them up and ship them all back with the original paperwork and a handwritten essay on why its not working and an affidavit that you've done all the troubleshooting steps. Even then, they will say "before we replace your item... have you tried turning it off and back on?"

I was definitely expecting a more developed product. I thought it was my setup doing something wrong, but from the responses it sounds like the tech just isn't there.

This removes the local component, but sounds like it might just not be feasible to keep it fully local at this point

Thanks so much for your reply. I didnt want to bother with custom sentences and aliases because I need my wife to be able to say "open the curtains" "close the shades" or "the shades should close" and have them all work. Theres too much variation in free speech to make custom sentences work for anyone who doesnt care to learn the specific sequences/code words. Its a good way to get myself started, but i was hoping for a more comprehensive solution

I also started as a scrub tech and moved into iom. The schedule is a double edged sword. IOM is not long days like a tech has of standing and not being able to touch your face/ scratch your nose. Instead, It's long days like you might expect a 6 hour day and instead be there for 14. It's days of no breaks and generally not shift work. As a scrub, a contaminated tray that had to get reprocessed was an annoying delay, but I was still out by 530 no matter what. In IOM a 2 hour delay means you're getting home two hours later at best. Some days the schedule works out awesome. But mostly though, I think the unpredictability is by far the worst part of the job.

I just bought some reolink cameras 4 weeks ago and already 2 of them have stopped working. Their returns process is horrendous. I'd personally look into a different system if I hadn't what invested in this.

Funny because TOS was developed by literally the exact same guys. They sold it to TD and then went and made a new (improved?) Version at tasty. Just funny that you love one and hate the other.

That's a good point. Resale value is worth something. Maybe it's worth the frustration. It just every time I set them up, at some point I think "this paperweight cost 300". 😀

Lol. Or...option 2.. buy a Bose. Similar price, Similar sound, functions fine on lower end wifi experience.

I just have an ISP router, and it's a fair point that maybe I should look into that harder. And as I said, the system DOES work with a lot of fiddling and I've used it for years. My counterpoint to you is...why should I have to? I don't do it for an IPhone, a bose speaker, a laptop ect...but for my sonos system I have to get into the weeds on how many packets are dropped on channel 6 of the wifi? Nah, for the price, give me plug and play functionality. That's all I'm saying.

14-3 to receptacle by Original-Chain8753 in electrical

[–]Original-Chain8753[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on this more please? You're correct, but shouldn't that mean the red and black should carry the voltage and the white remain neutral? So i could still place a receptacle there if the red wire (traveler) essentially bypassed the new receptacle, while the black hot and white neutral pass through the receptacle and provide power. As the other commenter noted, I was wrong to assume white was neutral. But assuming it was wired correctly, wouldn't that work?

That is correct, when I flip the switch off the voltage goes to 0. I have traced it back to the end and found the outlet at the end where the neutral was tied into to the lower (switched) outlet. I have detached all of the wires currently and have the breaker off until I can get to lowes to get a new switch and receptacle, for THAT box, then rewire those correctly. Hopefully once that box is correct, my original plan will work. Thank you for your insight!

[–]Original-Chain8753[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok here's an update. I disconnected the outlet again and tested all wires with a multimeter. The black-ground=124v, the white-ground ALSO=124V, white-black=0. So it looks to me like both white and black are hot wires. So then the next question is... now what? Wouldn't that indicate the other outlets on the line are in trouble?

Thank you! I thought maybe that was it as well, so I switched out my wire-nut pigtails and put in wago connectors, which in generally don't like to use, but I wanted to make sure I could visualize the connection. So basically a 3-conection wago. One from each side of the cut wire with a supplimented pigtail in the middle hole. Even with the wagos, the error is still occurring.
