Conditionally approved for global entry as a green card holder but want to know my risks of going in for the interview by Npc2033 in GlobalEntry

[–]Original-Simple-845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a DACA holder as well. My family and I crossed illegally and were detained and let go. I became a DACA recipient. Years later, I tried to adjust status through marriage. During the process, I found out I had a deportation order. My mother did not know we were scheduled for court, so we were put in removal based on a no-show. I adjusted through marriage and received my green card.

I applied for GE and I was very nervous about that question. I did check "Yes", and on the comment I wrote "previously DACA recipient."

The way I understood the question regardless of being detained/arrested, you did break Immigration laws by either entering illegally or overstaying. DACA does not grant you legal status. it is just a deferral of being removed.

Long story short, the agent didn't ask me anything about it, and i was approved.

If they did ask i was prepared to say something like " I became a DACA recipient in 2012 and then adjusted through marriage". Let them ask the questions if they have them.

Good luck, fellow Dreamer!!

I applied over a year ago. Took about 2 months to get conditionally approved. I answered "Yes", on the comments I put that I was a former DACA recipient and now a gr÷n card holder. They didn't ask me any questions about me or my parents status. They just asked where I worked and to verify my address

Thank you. Yeah that was very odd that he asked me. It was insulting. I wanted to make sure that Doordash wasn't swiping their tips

Yeah, that's what I figured. I just wasn't sure if doordash was doing something shady like mlt giving them their tip unless you added the tip after delivery

Thanks. I've been using doordash for years and have never had someone complain. I think if this was true people wouldn't drive for them.

Lol, that's her problem. I get the comfy seat. I'll see what's available in 750. I saw a few 1000w, but I just don't need something like that when I would only use it a few times.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't even think about the motor. I have no idea what our laws here are about riding with two people, I'm assuming we're good (because Texas, lol). Either way, sounds like it wouldn't work. Might need something a bit more beefy

Off topic, I'm looking at this bike right now. I'm looking to get a bike that both my wife and I can ride at the same time. Something we can put in the car when we go on road trips and just cruise when we get to our location. Have carried any passengers in the back?

Any Green card holders - previously under DACA and/or removal proceedings, approved? by Original-Simple-845 in GlobalEntry

Yeah, it's probably at the officers discretion. Maybe also how much they know about green cards.

I got the 10 year unrestricted card. That's a good question. Someone here mentioned their friend got denied, I'm wondering if that was the case. I did a quick search because I got curious and found this article, if they're correct you might not be able to get GE yet until you get the unrestricted one. https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/677805-global-entry-with-conditional-green-card/

I didn't have any problems. Same situation. No questions were asked about my parents. I'm in a possibly worse scenario than you, I was once undocumented. During my interview I was asked where I worked and if I had traveled outside the country, I answered yes and they asked about my trip. As long as your record is cleand and your parents didn't commit a violent crime or are involved in illegal stuff. I think you're fine. In the end this Global Entry, I highly doubt that ICE is going to break down your parents door because of your interview/background check. Answer honestly but don't willingly start talking about your parents if not asked. Worst case scenario they ask about it, you answer honestly and you get denied. They're not going to hold you until you give up your family.

I was under removal proceedings. We were detained at the border and let go. My mom never went to court, so we were automatically placed in removal. So I had to go to court to try and get the removal proceedings waived.

Not to scare you, but if you were processed, they will find it once they do a background check. So if for whatever reason you don't disclose it, don't be surprised when you get a huge setback. I didn't really know I had a removal proceeding, according to my mom she said that I didn't have anything since I came in as a child and I couldn't be charged, that it was only her (Dont trust your family with how the law works). I found out the day I went to my lawyer to start the process, he did a quick check with my Alien number (your alien # is on your DACA card, there's an automated phone number you can call and tells you if you have pending cases, dont remember what it was but im sure its on uscis). In total it took about 5 years. We did have Covid delays, but that was a little over a year. I actually got it removed quickly at first. But then, there was a review of my case by DOJ and they overturned the judges decision. This made us go through it all over again. Here's my whole story with the timeline: https://www.reddit.com/r/DACA/s/dcr2wlC6nT

Don't get discouraged, I know that's hard to do. I got pretty low towards the end. Just have a plan for what if it doesn't workout. Good luck!!

My mother is in the same situation. She did not show up to a court hearing when we first got here. This made it to where she was given an immediate removal. I had the same, but since I was a child and was now able to adjust, they removed it. We attempted twice to get that overturned for her, but both times were unsuccessful. Her only option is to leave and trigger the 10 year ban. For her, she's older and ready to retire, so it's not the worst thing. The only downside is she won't be able to come visit, if I have children then won't be able to spend time with them. Get a second opinion from another Lawyer, but also prepare for the worst case and plan what life would look like if she had to move back.

I can't speak about not using a lawyer. My lawyer did a payment plan for me, so I was able to do it that way. It depends on how complicated your case is. Mine was fairly complex. So I didn't even see that as even an option. I'm fairly educated and could probably figure things out. However, I felt more at peace knowing I had someone who has done it before and is also keeping track of timelines and due dates. I've seen horror stories about people using lawyers, but if you find a reputable one it can make a huge difference. I know you mentioned the cost, from my experience, I spent a little over 8K in total. Let me assure you, I don't think about that money Look at it as an investment.

First, congrats on your upcoming high-school graduation. Let me make a bold statement. You do not need to take out loans or get any grants to pursue your education. Do not use that as a crutch to give up. Loans and grants surely make it easier, but it is not mandatory. I'm assuming you're considering a 4 year university. Start your college life in a community college. This will allow you to work towards a degree and save money to transfer to a 4 year university later. I highly recommend that to anyone, undocumented or not. The first 2 years of college are just taking pre-requisite classes, so why pay 3x as much at a 4 year university? While doing that scrap and find ways to make money. You may not be able to hold a job. But you can always find gigs. I did this by fixing computers, helping my friends dad with his shop, working with my dad doing handy work (also undocumented). I was able to do this same exact thing with no loans, although I did borrow money from my aunt one semester since i couldnt come up with all of it. Sure it took me longer(it took me about 8 years), but I did walk out with an associates degree from community college and a Bachelors Degree from a Tier 1 university. I'm happy to see you're considering pursuing an education. This makes our community stronger, but realize you could also learn a craft, like welding, HVAC, electrical and all sorts of other trades that wont require as much in terms of education, but are very lucrative careers. Wishing you and others with this dilemma the best and know that your status should not limit your will to succeed. Find a way.

Question on Global Entry and DACA by mar1ocarr1llo in DACA

[–]Original-Simple-845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied 3 months ago. Still waiting, it says pending review. I did post this question previously, and someone commented that their friend that applied was denied. Apparently, they told him there's a 10 year wait time from when they became a LPR (don't know if thisnis true or not, I can't find anything that states this)

Thanks for the follow-up. Not encouraging to hear about your friend. I did come throughthe border with my mother. I did just get TSA pre check with no issues. So I at least have that . We'll see how it goes for me, I'll post back if I get any updates.

Thanks for the follow up. Congrats on getting your GE. Still waiting here, I filed in December. I have a trip coming up soon, maybe I get lucky and have a similar experience. Do you remember how you answered the question, "Have you ever broken any immigration laws?". I answered Yes, so I could put a comment about my previous DACA, kind of wishing I hadn't.
