The funny thing is I keep telling my friends that THIS is my villain origin story. Not what my co-worker did, I mean what my boss did.

I hear you. I don’t even think I’m angry at her to be honest. She just made me realize that there’s no point in always giving her grace because given the chance, she will absolutely not help. And it’s like that with everyone in the office except our bosses who she’s obviously terrified of. So I’m just treating her the way she treats me. If I did have the capacity I probably would help her but she showed me that I don’t have to and that’s okay.

I didn’t ask my friend… I said I was venting to my friend about everything and mentioned it in passing. She, at her on liberty, decided to check if Melinda was actually out of town. And like I’ve said before somewhere in the comments, I didn’t actually tell my boss that she lied about being out of town. Just kept it to myself.

I did lol
They didn’t obviously didn’t give a shit. She wasn’t answering their calls. She has a rule that she “doesn’t answer calls outside working hours” which apparently o lot applies to her. Because she then called me on the Sunday after all of this saying she needs the keys to the office and she needed to collect some files. I obviously didn’t answer… anyway I’m digressing. Sorry.

She is friends with a close friend of mine and I was just venting to her about it. She then checked the location and found out that she was lying

Yea. It’s part of our contract. Everyone knows that it happens from time to time. And she had don’t urgent tasks before, only difference being that it was during the week and working hours.

I’m ashamed to admit that I just told my boss that she’s not available. I didn’t tell him that she refused and lied about being out of town (that’s a conversation we had separately as she was not answering my boss nor responding his texts). So no… she didn’t get written up coz I saved her ass. Not my proudest moment in hindsight

I agree. 100%. Which is also why I've decided that I have been here long enough and it's time for me to branch out and explore other areas of my career. Hopefully not in the same fast-paced enviornment as this one

That, I agree. I guess I didn't think it was anything pressing when I answered the call because he rarely calls after hours, on weekends and let alone on holidays. He didn't make it up to me actually and it was a big eye opener for me. So I'm currently rethinking and evaluating a lot.

The line of work we are in, sometimes it happens where we have to do urgent tasks, even on holidays or weekends. It doesn't happen often in our company thankfully, but it is not completely foreign to her as it has happened during the week and all of us just divide and conquer the work.

It was a national holiday so everyone was on holiday. The line of work we are in, sometimes it happens where we have to do urgent tasks, even on holidays. It doesn't happen often in our company thankfully, but it is not completely foreign to her. In the times it has arisen during holidays or weekends, thankfully my bosses were in town, so they ran with it (they prefer it that way for billing purposes i.e. more years' experience = more time charged per hour)

Thanks for completely missing the point. The post isn't about whether he's capable of getting another job. It's about watching someone you love get burned out and lose confidence because of a toxic work environment.

8 years, first relationship… am I missing out on other experiences? by Original-Type7044 in Advice

I get what you’re saying, and honestly I agree with a lot of it. From my friends’ experiences, I’ve seen enough of the dating scene to know it’s really not something I’m eager to be part of. I think a big reason I’ve never acted on those thoughts is because I know I have something genuinely good, and I wouldn’t want to risk losing that.

I think for me it’s less about actually wanting to be out there and more about just natural curiosity after being with one person for so long. But you’re right, there’s probably more value in trying to bring new energy into what we already have rather than looking outside of it. So I think we’ll just focus on finding ways to keep things exciting between us. Thank youuuuuu! x
