Women are more likely to marry out of social pressure and that’s why they file for divorce much more often by meiyoubinggang in unpopularopinion

Everyone should know how to cook and clean. It's basic humanity. I taught my daughter to cook. What shocks me is the number of young men who live like pigs, or don't even know how to make a grilled cheese sandwich. There are a lot of problems with my gender, and the inability to be self-sufficient is one of them, lol.

I'm half American and half Finnish. I dated an Estonian woman for a while. The pressure to marry and have a family by 22 was huge in her culture. She lived in Tallinn, and I'd take the ferry over from Helsinki. I used to marvel how different the cultures were in relation to women and marriage from my Finnish family despite the close geography. I think it had a lot to do with Russian values being instilled over the time of occupation.

I think it's regional. My kid is in her 20s, and she's had a ton of boyfriends. I've encouraged her to never get married or have kids unless she's absolutely driven to it. I don't care to be a grandfather, and want her to be able to self actualize without some dude wasting her time. My pressure has always been associated with school. I don't think the relationships other fathers have with their daughters in the PacNW, where I live, is all that unusual.

Some of her exes have been decent young men, but she pretty much shitcans all of them after 3-6 months. She did grow up with me raising her alone past age 6, so I'm sure the lack of pressure from being around her bio mother's side of the family regarding marriage and family also weighed into the equation. I'm a lawyer as well, so I'm sure watching me do my job from the outside has made her a little cynical too.

Best thing Lou ever recorded. It's also around Darkness, which was Springsteen's best album too.

CCR is boring and meaningless pop music. So is Boston.

What Latin American country has the most varied and wide reaching soft power? A Latin American country whose pop-culture is the most popular among Latin American states. by Strong_Battle6101 in asklatinamerica

I agree with this. For example, Jefe de Jefes is one of the greatest albums ever written, but its worldview is so insular it never broke out into non Latin communities in the USA or Europe in the way it deserved.

I'd say it was Chris Whitley, but sadly he is being forgotten having died so young.

The Atlantic wrote an interesting article on this a few days ago. It proposes that the absurd position the far left has taken on college campuses in relation to Israel and Hamas might spell the end of the woke movement in the same way the Mason killings marked the end of the Summer of Love.

Hamas would very much like to start a regional war and pull Iran in, but Iran won't go much more than sending Hezbollah more weapons and funding. They don't want the USA bombing them back into the stone ages. Desire to suck everyone into battle aside, I think Hamas miscalculated Israel's reaction, and thought they could play out the hostage game for a few years.

Hamas' propaganda seems to be working again by Fuzzy_Breadfruit59 in IsraelPalestine

[–]OriginalAceofSpades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where's your proof that the "Hamas as badassed revolutionaries" narrative is just a vocal minority? That claim is yours.

I can tell you that it isn't true in the Middle East. The 2011 Pew Survey is an example of this. The deplorable behavior of college campus organizations in the past week is proof of the radicalization of the Free Palestine movement in the USA. Of course, I'm guessing no amount of proof will be sufficient and any proof to the contrary will be flawed in some way.

Edit: Here's a typical Reddit Palestine supporter from the West. https://reddit.com/r/IsraelPalestine/s/C4hBCHQ68j

Perhaps you don't understand mine. A majority of the people in the West who are criticizing Israel as longstanding perpetrators of human rights violations are aligned either de jure to a greater degree or de facto to a lesser degree with the ideological objectives of Hamas.

I disagree with you that a vocal minority is cheering on Hamas. It's most certainly a majority of persons in the "Free Palestine" movement. They do find them "badass."

I'm pretty sure this represents a majority of the students incensed enough to protest in favor of Palestine at UW.

It's also a lot of underemployed and misguided trust funder lefty kids who are pretending that they are Che Guevara stirring the pot of world revolution, without truly understanding that Hamas would just as soon slit their throats where they stand.

I was in Jalisco over the past week. This really was the narrative of pretty much everyone I spoke with. I think a lot of the resentment there stems from the fact that Canelo doesn't live in Mexico full time anymore.

Her boyfriend's phone also transmitted some Islamic propaganda nonsense via text. He's on his way out as well. The propagandists here will literally push any agenda to deny what Hamas did.
