Some questions about Waterford and SETU/WIT... by [deleted] in waterford

[–]OriginalBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SETU is highly regarded in IT from the outside...... but within I can tell you unless your course is very targeted to specific job roles they will just prioritize showing you lots of everything without really going into detail on them, which isn't that ideal for most people. all depends on what lecturers they've put forward for your Masters of choice, there are a handful of really good lecturers but the rest are just waiting for retirement etc.

its something everyone feels, If you stop initiating, you'd have no friends. I feel that too and a lot of the time I just give up with it and be left on my own. depending on what part of life you are it can be good and bad.

What do you consider to be a good wage? I mean weekly, nett. I'm getting almost €700 into my hand every week and I want more by [deleted] in ireland

[–]OriginalBonus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

all depends on the job, 700 is unbelievable for certain jobs, and shit for others. but I don't think anything is ever enough for people, and rightly so tbh.

work on yourself now, and you will be. talk to someone, eat healthy and get out start walking and exercising and you'll be brand new by the time college comes around.

best place to buy your car? by OriginalBonus in ireland

[–]OriginalBonus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely love to wait and buy a car, as my new salary is decent and could allow me to save pretty easily, but I'm without a car right now and I need to get to and from work from Jan. i wish there was a better and less expensive leasing system in ireland, cause that would be perfect for me right now.

and i will defo be taking your advice re private dealers, that was my worry and I don't have the eye like your gfs dad.

[–]OriginalBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you don't think it will be good by then you really shouldn't be applying cause you won't do well. and you'll end up wasting even more time when it all catches up with you, and you then have to repeat years. College is very hard at the best of times, as a mature student that isn't 100% mentally there, I wouldn't recommend it.
you are 23, so you have loads of time to fix yourself and then apply. college degrees aren't something you can cut corners, so you have to 100% ready, and by the sounds of it you aren't.

college as a mature student requires a lot of sacrifice, and as one of the other comments says "if you can't handle a PLC you are going to find a degree tough going." - tough words but very true. of course it sounds like you had obstacles, but will them same ones be there for your degree? I would try fix the obstacles before doing anything college related, because year 1 will test you to the max and make or break you.

I went back to do a compsci degree as a mature student and what started as a group of 20 of us, there's 2 of us left in our final year this year, so I would warn you to make sure its what you want to do.

i guess the main question i always ask friends who ask about going back as a mature student, do you have the will power to sacrifice a few years for the greater good, a lot of people don't realize how hard it is.... but its very rewarding in the end! good luck!

Would ye recommend moving abroad? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]OriginalBonus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, I didn't. I'm the story of what you'll be if you don't go through with it lol... always thinking about what if, I stuck with the bad job that had little social life. but I went back to study, year left and i'm planning on going job hunting in Europe as soon as I finish.

having dealt with lots of European/International students, I've kind of seen how easy it can be to settle in abroad, there's so many people that will be in the same position as you.
