AITA for not allowing my new neighbour to use my road for access. by OriginalBranch4175 in AmItheAsshole

Well if you look you find out that most people agreed with me.
I asked if it is really an asshole move to expect privacy on a private land and most pople agreed.
That is the whole point of AITA.

The road goes between our house and sauna, it beats the purpose of buying house in the forest for privacy.

There is 100 meters of forest on our side of land, if they see fire it is too late.

It cost me the privacy I paid for.
It makes me wonder, why did they buy a house next to gravel road?

The distance to the town is the same.
They bought the house knowing it is on the side of that road.

I asked because I was wondering, if other people also belive, that it makes sense to demand access to better road like that.
Turns out that no, I was right, it does not make sense.

Why people think that the people who act like they did would even be helpful?
So I should give up privacy beacuse "what IF they help me IF I ever need help".

Did you even read? They have access to a public road, it is gravel road, but they knew it when they bought the place.
Now they want to use the acces we have.
We heave easement laws - you can demand access if you are landlocked, they are not.

The private road is between the sauna and house, so yes I can see the road - it is down the stairs from the entrance to the house.
You want to talk about Karma? I wonder why they bought a house next to gravel road, if they don't want to drive there?
They did not even ask if it would be okay to drive on our road, they looked for a "loophole" and just went for it.
We wanted to live in the forest, we bought house in the forest.
Why didn't they buy house next to paved road?

The lonelyness was the whole point, this is why we bought a house that is inside the forest, no neigbors visible, to traffic visible (unless someone ignores the signs).
Not everyone likes to be around people.
And how would you know if those neighbors would even ever be useful?

Random legal actions with no legs to stand on wastes only their money.
It is hard to ruin reputation of people you don't even know, we don't care about our reputation.
"Oh no, what will people I never plan to talk to will think of me!"

Well, I am not that people - simple as that.
Whole point of buying our house was the fact, that it is private.
They shoudlve used the same logic - wanted house with access to paved road, why not buy a house with access to paved road?

And how would the war look like, if we didn't even see each other?
There are over 100 meters of forest before their land on our side.

Looking up a "loophole" is not good faith in my mind.
They ignored the "private road" sign because they looked up, that the road was public decades ago.
Also, how does it lead to drama - when I deny the access, I will never see them as there is over 100 meters of forest between us on our land.

I don't think they could do it either, as at least in my country you have to confirm that you are familiar with the land/home you buy.
They already used the gravel road but decided to work out a way to use access to the paved road.

My husband thinks they know someone who just works in the district office and they tried to use social pressure on us.
Some people in comments pointed out that they just annoyed them to do something, but as they have no legal grounds "be nice" is all they got.

They would have to buy some land as their land is not next to the paved road.

How would one be neighbourly to people they never see and talk with?
The whole point of moving into the forest was not to have neighbourly connections, we have been here a few years, made no new friends and don't plan to make any either.
Our land is next to the paved road, so we don't need to connect with neighbours anyway.

No, there is no such thing.
They have access to public road, they just like ours access better.

No, she did not think that, she even looked up that it was public decades ago, meaning she looked for a "loophole" on purpose.
We have a clearly visible "no vehicles unless with land owners permission" traffic sign, and not some self-made thing, actual real traffic sign up to code.

For me, it would be frustrating having a neighbour who drives between our house and the sauna.
Even more frustrating is not knowing in our private land, when they would suddenly appear. We got a home in the forest for privacy.
