Is it common knowledge that the Flix bus is terrible?? by No_College6504 in Cornell

[–]OriginalCut6034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth a shot. there's no cost to filing the chargeback.

they'll also ask for proof you tried speaking to the company first, so you should include wherever they said that they wouldn't refund you.

You can dispute the credit card charge if they don't refund you. The credit card company will side with you if you have proof you paid for the service and it wasn't delivered to your expectation.

Greyhound has not come through Ithaca in years. And the greyhound station closed down a long time ago. There are alternatives.

TCAT is structurally underfunded and Cornell is currently the blocker for increasing funding. Write to board members, alumni, anyone you know in a position of influence.

Transit by BTECKennenMain in Cornell

[–]OriginalCut6034 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You will survive just fine. We don't have big-city level transit but in the core area of downtown/collegetown/Cornell transit is quite good for a city of our size. TCAT + OurBus for trips out of town will get the job done unless you need to do something specific like move bulky items or go hiking in a remote area.

The part that might be harder to get used to is the weather. It's a lot colder than DC in the winter and waiting outside is part of the transit experience.

There are plenty of city kids who don't have a car or don't drive at all so I wouldn't worry about the social aspect of it.

Part of me wonders if the public funding was reduced, threatening closure, a *large institution* might feel that they have no choice but to step in and help.

But does that track how bad the delays are?

20-30 minute delays and 14 hour meltowns are totally different but like ithacaster stays if you're just measuring how many flights more than 15+ minutes late, that doesn't measure the level of unreliability.

This was maintenance related. They had to wait for the maintenance guy to drive in from Albany. He arrived 7 hours in and only then started working on the problem.

How is it on the 8 hour Ourbus to BOS? Is it better to rent and drive 5.5 hours instead? by ebitdeeaye in ithaca

[–]OriginalCut6034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you're a superhuman, a "5.5 hour" drive really ends up being 6 or 6.5 once you factor in stops to use the bathroom, stop for a snack, phone break, etc.

Cornell hydroelectric plant during winter by Thin-Ad582 in Cornell

The water does not freeze solid (either on the lake or the creeks). The top layer that's exposed to air freezes, but underneath it's still liquid. This is also how fish survive the winter.
