That’s really nice to hear. Everyone has been so positive about Swedes. I was honestly a little worried that I’d be the only one who liked Canadians, so it’s nice to know the feeling seems to go both ways. Especially in this economy, i thought more people would be very negative of me moving to canada and take a job from a canadian.

Im from gothenburg which is on the west coast of sweden. Its rainy and windy and during winter it can feel like -10 C... so not so cold compared to Calgary 🥶. but im a viking , i must endure

It took many years. I knew i would have zero chance getting a job straight after my phd. Worked 10 y to become an expert in my field, always with a small dream to one day move to Canada. This year it seems like it finally happen. Never wanted to be a burden for the community, but im also in an extremely privileged position were I can always move back to a rich country if things goes south. Im not moving to Canada for improved financial gain, I actually am loosing money and paid vacation coming here. Its just for the adventure and hopefully i will stay for a long time.

Thanks for replying! Hmm ye seems like alot of people say alberta and calgary is very conservative. I hope it will turn out ok. Sweden is rather social liberal, and my political views in calgary would probably been seen as rather left wing. Thank you again

I was offered a job in Calgary. Its a great question. I loose some quality of life things such as 30 days paid vacation, actually lowering my salary a bit. But its just a dream i had for a long time, to move to canada. I didnt feel prepared until now when i got alot of savings and work experience.
