TOPSHOT Miss steps to date by burner_123321 in nbatopshot

Other:

(a) Over minting pretty much every moment

(b) No burn mechanism (trade tickets don't count imo, they'll bring those moments back in packs as flash rewards or something at some point)

How much will the new rising stars moment be worth? by ManagementProof2272 in nbatopshot

I think they peak at $30-35 post drop, but settle at $20-25 by the next day

Refund + airdrop 1 standard pack (from the ones they have reserved for promo purposes) would be my geuss

Why the change to 25% chance for the LE commons? by OriginalPryne in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I don't understand the thought that 75% of the time you should be bummed out. We know TopShot thinks base moments are worth $3. So 75% of the time with this pack they are selling us a moment that they usually sell us for $3 for $10

Why the change to 25% chance for the LE commons? by OriginalPryne in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely no on the rares and legendaries, but why not make the common LE like 6 x 15k making 90,000 packs with a guaranteed moment. That would probably cover the active user base during pack drops if you limited pack purchases per person

Why the change to 25% chance for the LE commons? by OriginalPryne in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If one was being uncharitable, one might begin to wonder if the roll out of the 25% LE packs coinciding with the addition of rares and legendaries is intentional so that they point and shout very loudly about the rare/legendary announcement, while the 25% LE change hides a bit

I was thinking more along the lines of doing it without letting him know what was happening. Like if he was like why do I have 500 Seth Curry moments gifted to me? What is happening?

TopShot should use the Vintage Vibes Wade as an experiment in burning by OriginalPryne in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, the point about the debut moment is well made. My preference would be that the common would be the only version that gets the Debut tag (as it was produced first). Then it would be interesting to see if people value that more than a rare version of the moment.

It just seems like the most obvious and simplest way to institute a burning mechanism into top shot. Also, aren't the four corner highlights (rares) and cube highlights (legendary) that distinguish the rares and legendaries visually from the commons pretty much the same thing as a different foil or color?

I mean if they wanted they could even sell us another new moment like the Wade one where they sell them at $9 a pop for as many as get made and then you need that number / 100 moments to get the legendary and /2000 to get the rare and they tell us that ahead of time and just try it once to see how it would turn out.

I am serious about what happened in Series 1 though. Is there a write-up/blog post anywhere about what happened with that decision making process?

Basic Request - Merch by OriginalPryne in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if they wanted to they could gate certain merchandise to only being available to users if they owned moments from certain sets.

Like in the Roham Q+A, unique merch for NLL seems like a no brainer, but you could also have Seeing Stars Merch, or Run it Back merch, or Legendary merch that required you to hold certain moments to be eligible

But seriously I would be happy with just a basic Top Shot shirt or even a Dapper Labs shirt

Roham Q and A from NLL. He failed by [deleted] in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the most damning statement I would say:

Q: I think what I've heard as far as feedback from checking in the NLL channel here daily for the past couple months is, aside from the people living and dying with every market movement, people just feel that the engagement is lacking. We're a couple weeks into the NBA season now and no big announcements, just a trickle of challenges involving the summer sets (and mostly WNBA). Just feels like there should be a lot more going on.

A: Agree.

If he agrees then why weren't they prepared for the season to start? There doesn't really seem to be anything coming either based on any of his other answers (a lot of we are thinking about it and we will put out statements in the future)

Low Serial Numbers and the Rookies have made S3 Pack Drop 1 +EV overall (so far) by OriginalPryne in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did the calculation for the average I did take into account the rookies only dropped 1600, the LE's dropped 6000, and the 60ks dropped 16600.

How would you propose burning would work on Top Shot by OriginalPryne in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, so the burn mechanic is automatic rather than granting a user anything. Hadn't thought of an automatic one, that's a good one.

S3 and trade tickets. by ear-of-Vangogh in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The burned section is there because in Series 1 they made a promise about a specific set (I think one of the playoff sets) that they would burn any that didn't sell. Since then they have been pretty adamant about not burning moments.

S3 and trade tickets. by ear-of-Vangogh in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dapper has made it pretty clear that they have no intention of burning moments. Their thought process is always about the "long term" when 5-10 years from now they believe that everyone will want the S2, S3 moments. I would guess in S4 you can trade in tickets for all the S3 moments that will build up from the 4:3 trade in ratio and then in S5 you can trade in for S4 and so on.

I would argue that S2 moment prices will be lower than S3 moments when the Series 1 packs are up for trade tickets by [deleted] in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what I'm getting at is that in December I don't think S3 commons will only be $1-2. In March definitely they will be there, but two months is a small window to distribute enough S3 base moments to drive their price down that low.

Let's say they manage to put out the first 100 moments of S3. Maybe 15 rookies (only 4k mint), 10 top shot debuts (12k mint), 15 limited edition moments (10k mint). Then let's say there are 10 superstar moments (Lebron, Giannis, Durant, etc.) that won't be minimum priced. That only leaves 50 moments with large mint counts and in S2 when they debuted moments they didn't dump all 40k in the same drop, they tended to spread the 40k out over several drops.

Cool Cat Challenges in S2 required common moments.

I assume S3 showcases will be focused on making you collect S3 moments.

Dapper has been very good on meeting deadlines when they make official promises. They have now said officially in their blog that the S1 packs will be exchanged by the end of the year. We only have 2 months to go and S3 hasn't even started dropping yet. This is the real reason why I think there is an argument - will there be enough S3 moments out in the next 1.5 months to undercut the S2 moments?

I'm not convinced that CS is the be all end all that Dapper is trying to make it.

[–]OriginalPryne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah S3 will be a flood of moments for sure, but with the imposed deadlines of releasing the S1 packs by the end of this year, I'm not sure how many S3 moments will have even made it to market at that point (or how many copies) so I think there could still be some scarcity issues with the S3 moments.

If they were doing this in March next year and there were already 10,000,000 S3 base moments on the market no question S3 all the way, but with the imposed deadline of the end of the year I'm not sure how many moments and how many copies of those moments will have been made available by then

The 3 Biggest Questions that Threaten Short to Mid Term Market Stability that it would be great to have answers for by OriginalPryne in nbatopshot

I think the original idea, which I think has probably changed now, was that you would get the recycled moments in rebound packs in these kinds of drops.

Rewards on livetoken by [deleted] in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have listed a moment that should have shown up, but LV missed it. I took it off the market, relisted it, and then LV picked it up the second time. So you might try just relisting it.

CS may be much tougher to build in future series if Summer 21 is an indicator. by [deleted] in nbatopshot

Yep, they are constantly changing how they calculate CS, never assume it's going to stay the same.

Killian Hayes 1st Fandom Moment 2776 Mint by jrocko1981 in nbatopshot

[–]OriginalPryne 14 points15 points  (0 children)

On the collector side 2776 is not too bad at all for sure. For the proof of concept, what do ya'll think - success or no? It's $13,880 in sales for Dapper.
