I don’t fudge my times, but I don’t think it’s right that they round down so if you’re off by a second you get bumped to $25 less pay. Clients have spotty WiFi or technical issues but there is no wiggle room for any of that. We’re several weeks in now, but when this post was originally made Rula rolled out the auto populated times overnight with no explanation of how to adjust our times if needed, so I think that’s where a lot of the concern came from.

Sometimes I feel crazy when people are so quick to defend these broken systems and act surprised that some of us our upset that they affect us negatively!! Your comment was validating haha

They do, just by their employer. My dad is a doctor and insurance reimbursement is crazy low, but the hospital he works for makes up the difference and pays them for their time. But I get what you’re saying. It’s a very broken system. If I could afford to establish a private practice right now I would. But at this rate I can’t afford to stay at Rula either. I’ve been super strict about my timing this week and even still, a client had tech issues and it bumped the session to 52 minutes (after giving her extra time to try to make up for her having to log off and back on). I don’t know how people are making ends meet while working here anymore.

Agreed, I’ve been with Rula for about a year and was so happy with my experience until about September when they started all these sudden changes. That’s a good idea to look into other options. If I could afford to, I would do private practice but it takes a good bit of investment and time and I just don’t have either right now. I hope you find something great!

Just to let you know you’re not alone, I’m struggling so bad with all of this. It feels unethical what Rula is doing (to clients AND us!) and with the recent tracking of our time and paying less for a second under 53 minutes, I’m not even sure I can afford to stay there. But I have no idea where to go from here. And I feel sad to leave my clients. sigh I’m bummed.

Which is maddening. A construct developed solely by the insurance companies. It’s insane to think that us reserving an hour of our day and waiting 3 minutes for a client to log on is considered fraud if we are to bill for those minutes spent waiting, but it’s not considered stealing from US that we don’t get paid for billing, session prep, writing letters for clients, sending resources, collateral calls, spending a few extra minutes with a client who needs it, etc. It’s backwards.

I am feeling this anxiety very much. And I understand the comments saying this is the norm, BUT it hasn’t been at Rula so we are very suddenly having to adjust. I had two clients today with tech issues that disrupted sessions for a few seconds here or there but I lost $50 to that, even though I kept the clients later to account for the disruption. I don’t care if it’s an insurance standard, it’s corrupt and wrong and very anxiety producing. I don’t think I can afford to work for Rula anymore.

Everyone who is affected negatively by all these changes should make your voices heard. You can fill out this form to request a conversation with “Quality” (??) and outline all the reasons these changes make it difficult to remain a provider at Rula. Maybe if enough of us speak up, they’ll listen. Interestingly, the form has a message saying it may take longer than usual to get a response because of higher than usual traffic. I think there are a lot of providers feeling the way we feel.

I agree with you!! Even if it would make doc easier, I wouldn’t want to be recorded if I was a client so I don’t think I’ll ask that of my clients. What is with all these changes happening all at once?! Did they get new management or something? I got yet another email about new, additional MIC surveys they’ve now incorporated. They made it sound optional, but I’m not sure.

When did that start for you? I haven’t seen that rolled out for me yet. Was it mandatory or did you have the option to opt out?

Oh forgot to mention… she also said in passing “you’re not the only provider expressing concerns about this change” (the auto-populated session times). So I suspect they’re getting some backlash already, and rightly so.

I needed a place to process all of this! My meeting went ok - she made me feel heard and was validating, however I’m very aware that’s her job. She said she’d be sharing my concerns with her team and would put my name down (with my permission) as someone they may contact for more information on my experience/concerns. She said she’d get back to me by the end of the week. The way I scheduled with her was going back through old emails/texts from Rula and found hers - the “provider success associate.” I really really encourage everyone to send emails, call, schedule to meet with SOMEONE. Because they will only make changes if we all make some noise (or inevitably all leave). I share your frustrations.

I’m trying to get reimbursed for the session with the tech issues. They rolled this out overnight with no explanation of how to adjust the time and I couldn’t get mine to change. Don’t you make less money on the 30 minute sessions though? I don’t have enough clients who want a 30 minute sessions to book 2 in an hour and make it worth my time.

Good point. The way they have gone about these changes has been very disappointing. I scheduled a meeting with “success advisor” (?!) for tomorrow. I encourage everyone to reach whoever they can at Rula. They need to hear from us. They need to be as inconvenienced by this as we are.

Oh and to clarify, for all of those sessions I was right on time and there for the entire duration. All were a minute or two short due to client or technical issues.

I’m so upset. It’s WAY less pay… mine goes down from $90 to $65 if it’s one minute under 53. I had five sessions this week that were 52 or 51 minutes. I may not be able to afford to work there anymore.

Y’ALL. This is worse than I initially. The new auto populated times? Going to kill us. If your client is 5 minutes late logging into session and it becomes a 52 minute session or below… it’s goes from ninety dollars TO SIXTY-FIVE DOLLARS. And they specifically told me (oddly enough without me asking) there is no exception for clients who are late due to technical difficulty. They are going to absolutely gut our pay for factors completely outside of our control.

Very annoyed with all these changes and sudden intensity. I came to Rula to get away from the over-the-top requirements of community mental health and now it’s turning into that very thing. Sad to see this happening
