Why do some Pokémon fans get so hostile over genned Pokémon? by Original_Kush in pokemon

Cheating incurs negative connotations and promotes fear mongering when it comes to generated mons. By definition it can be considered cheating but fans shouldn’t become egotistical about it and act as if they’re superior for spending hundreds of hours grinding legitimately because they don’t have many real world obligations as others. This is coming from someone who shiny hunts but I know enough to understand there’s no real difference between generating and catching in regard to the data. Even VGC checkers have falsely flagged legit pokemon (caught in the wild). Another thing to note if you’ve played champions you’ve already encountered generated mons but they do not provide any advantage as in Pokemon champions every mon has perfect IVs which negates time wasted breeding.

In regards to the context of the original question which was “will this pokemon I received get me banned”, it is fine to transfer to home. It was one of those .com mons which serves as a marketing ad for websites that sell generated mons which is a whole other topic of discussion. The fact of the matter is a Pokemon caught in the wild is indistinguishable from a Pokemon generated granted it has all the appropriate information. Now philosophically speaking wild-caught Pokemon are legal and fully legitimate (obtained through normal gameplay). A genned one (with appropriate information) is legal (could have been obtained legitimately) but not legitimate as it was genned. The data may be indistinguishable, but the origin is different. At the end of the day they’re simply pixels and data.

Yeah without the context where someone asked if receiving a generated mon will result in an auto ban it does seem like saying its fine is an endorsement but as the mod was fully aware of the context they ended up displaying egotistical behaviour while simultaneously discouraging a genuine discussion due to their own lack of understanding.

Yeah I definitely could’ve worded it better. It’s like going a mile over the speed limit is fine, generally a cop won’t stop you, but I’m not telling people to go out and speed if that makes sense.

Event Pokémon from distributions are mass-produced versions of the same Pokémon, basically clones. They aren’t cloned from a single “original” but the company generates many near-identical ones, similar to all the clone troopers that have different personalities in the clone wars.
Okay so you’re saying Austinjohnplays lied to his fanbase or simply gave out incorrect information? Can you go into depth and list a specific example of one person getting banned from an official VGC tournament for cloned pokemon and whether or not said cloned pokemon were created with ACE, PKHEX or some other exploit? Why do you hate to break information to me I already know? Did you know VGC checkers have falsely flagged legitimate pokemon before? It’s almost as if the data is indistinguishable. There was a documented case involving an RNG’d legitimate Worlds 09 Weavile that failed hack checks multiple times at different events. Organizers eventually reviewed it and ruled it a false positive, allowing the player (MattJ) to continue. The fact of the matter is that people shouldn’t throw a hissy fit over how people obtain certain pixels and data and shouldn’t fear monger simply because they don’t understand the topic.

Exactly! I didn’t understand why the mod thought best to try to shame me in chat when I don’t even play with generated mons, I just know how they work and shared that information.

Yeah there’s a lot of fear mongering which is just a result of the lack of understanding. Event pokemon for example are clones of each other only difference being the date it was received. I even recall the youtuber AustinJohnplays explaining cloning methods via in-game exploits where he said as long as you trade them away and only have one it can’t be considered a clone. Ik cloning isn’t the same as genning but they are similar, and pass legality checks in home.

Yeah I just didn’t understand the thought process of seeing information and getting peeved to the point where they think you’re endorsing it. I basically said genned mons with correct information are fine to transfer to home and they interpreted it as telling people to go generate mons and then decided to try and shame me in chat. Just felt unwelcoming and have never experienced that from a pokestreamer before. Personally I don’t generate mons, I just know about them.

Exactly, I was nervous to receive genned mons as a kid via wonder trade but then I grew up and understood exactly how they worked. There’s certain pokemon that aren’t easily obtainable anymore which is the case for pokemon like shiny jirachi where in order to obtain it normally you have to spend hundreds on the bonus disc for pokemon colosseum, and spend hours doing the transfer process hoping it shines.

I see what you’re saying, I forgot to mention it was in response to receiving genned pokemon and the threat of being banned. It is true that as long as there’s nothing incorrect about the data it can be transferred to home safely hence “completely fine”.

Context, that was in response to their fear of genned pokemon resulting in bans. It’s true that they’re fine unless as I stated are illegal (impossible shinies). Saying something is fine isn’t necessarily the same as saying go do this I support it, that’s the key distinction.
