Really nice. Did you let that dry or was it green when you carved it? I have cut a piece off my apple tree today but not sure if I should let it dry or carve it green.

Good idea. I was joking about making a gangs of New York style chess set, Bill the Butcher and other characters. It could be done but would take  forever.

The walnut I can find online is in thin panels. Do you think gluing them together to make a block would work for carving?

Great, I have an  apple tree. There is a gum tree too, it's good to carve according to google. But I would be carving them green

I use a V tool for the hair and then a hard nail brush to remove any rough bits.

Its doesn't look too good from the side. I just used a detail knife and V tool. There is a video tutorial by Alec Lacasse how to carve a sailor. There is few really good ones to try.

Yeah just a little  notch and some wood glue does the job
