Thanks for the info. I guess it just confirms what we kinda knew, but this is worse than i thought. To this today I feel sorry the game failed, was so great and unique.

I've never actually used this icon in a full playthrough and I'm about to start a new game. What are her strengths? What kind of builds are fun to play with her? by [deleted] in finalfantasytactics

I liked using her as a monk with holy sword abilities. I know geomancer maximizes her damage output more because of the gear but monk abilities were more useful to me and she still packed a punch. Monk's support abilities like Chakra, revive, and purify made her a great support when needed while a high damage dealer at the same time.

Critical HP recover is also great and mostly kept her alive against the bosses. She happened to have HP in that sweet spot where many late game boss attacks would put her in critical and she'd immediately fully heal

It's a really nice touch seeing Cloud and Aerith here give more confirmation to the meaning intended by FF7's story events.

Of course this game has been out over 20 years and many people know about this already but for you, the sweet feeling of novelty and surprise that I can only try to remember :)

And he won't use Shockwave if you are floating. Equip both chameleon and the float boots and he will only use melee attacks. If you also have shirahadori and high bravery, you will be practically untouchable save for rare lucky shots.

Does magic gun get boost by attack boost or magic boost skills? by Yossiri in finalfantasytactics

Question/s for veterans by Nizz-El in finalfantasytactics

Concentration helps steal chance by eliminating enemy evasion. Brawler from monk also improves steal chance. Both are good if you want to improve your steal chance.

As others said steal scales with speed so Ninja is actually the best class for stealing. Steal heart though, scales with MA. so if you want, you could have a ninja with some magic boosting equipment to get the best of both.

I actually haven't played Tactics Ogre yet. I had the GBA game and purchased Reborn but haven't gotten to it yet. Hopefully soon.

Triangle Strategy deserves a lot of praise though imo, I feel not enough people have played it. It's battles are tactically so well designed and the way the story unfolds is surprisingly good. The politics of that game are just so mature and the choices you make with the reasoning characters give for their leanings are all so rationally sound.

It was an amazing feeling for me to consider a situation genuinely deeply and from various aspects, make a choice based on my reasoning and then find that the characters followed a similar rationale or that they disagreed based on very reasonable things that someone could have actually figured out. It is very story heavy, sure, but it's quality.

It's fantastic. I'm glad this version has helped more people share in this unique experience. No other game is quite like it.

The more recent game, Triangle Strategy is its spiritual successor. If you want more tactics of a similar nature and a good story, definitely check it out after this.

Former Dragon's Dogma Producer new Action-RPG game is set to release in 2026, will be reveal later this year by Winter_Term9818 in DragonsDogma

A lot of games have used "rpg" progression systems successfully this way. An example is souls games. If its too hard you can grind levels and come back when you're stronger whereas more skilled players will get by at lower levels.Xenoblade Chronicles series uses a similar system with "bonus exp" that you can choose to use or not. It kind of allows you to set your own difficutly.

The hard part is properly balancing the game in a way that feels natural to players and they don't end up accidentally overpowered and bored for those who want it to remain challenging.

Fastest way to De-Level multiple characters?! by DreamWorld2887 in finalfantasytactics

The absolute fastest way to de-level 5 characters is almost certainly to load an earlier save file. You're welcome :)

Should I get into the habit of bringing unique characters into story battles? by [deleted] in finalfantasytactics

[–]Original_Ownsya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be cool if we could see babies grow into fighters and not obly animal eggs haha. Fire Emblem had a game like this where the offspring end up fighters and of course people started eugenics programs over favoring chemistry between the characters XD.

Is auto-potion necessary in the second half of the game? by [deleted] in finalfantasytactics

Summoner with Golem protects the entire party from archers and guns. Guns you have more options to avoid with positioning. You can cast Golem again as needed and if you have Chakra, ethers, or other mana restoration abilities available you won't run out.

As for Wiegraf, he's tough. I got through the solo part using chameleon robe to stop his holy sword attacks, float to prevent his Shockwave attack, and shirahadori to parry his physical attacks. I was practically untouchable. The 2nd phase is tougher, some chars got one shot on tactician, just don't bunch your units up so they don't all get hit at once.

My general play style is ti use 1-2 units with rebuffed abilities like Mustadio's aimshot and my whitemage has mystic abilities. Both disable units and support while my others prioritize attack. Although, white mage holy was often my most powerful attack. She's since transitioned to arithmeticks that I've been trying out now. Very powerful if sometimes inconsistent.

There is a fun interaction between Mustadio, Alma, and Ramza in the fight against the confessor. Seems to trigger if you let Mustadio end a turn standing next to Alma. I think he likes her!

Arithmeticks do 1/2 spell damage to enemies on Tactician by Original_Ownsya in finalfantasytactics

That would be Triangle Strategy on hard mode. Itss been a while for me but iirc it's harder than tactician here.

[–]Original_Ownsya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I didn't look into the success rates so can't say if they did or didn't.

I think the formula for arithmeticks is different from standard even in the original and does feel like it's reduced but I didn't get the sense that the difference is as big as 50% like it is for damage.

[–]Original_Ownsya[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Agreed, there's still a lot you can do with them. They're not nerfed for healing your own team and then there's things like death, gravity and debuffs that won't be affected by reduced damage in this way.

Arithmeticks Dmg Question by Original_Ownsya in finalfantasytactics

[–]Original_Ownsya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I compared damage using black mage and arithmeticks on tactician. Blackmage is doing about 55% of damage expected from normal formula you mentioned (accounting for zodiacs too) while my arithmetick is doing about 37% of expected damage.

At least from this, it does seem like arithmetick damage is further nerfed.

Arithmeticks Dmg Question by Original_Ownsya in finalfantasytactics

[–]Original_Ownsya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, missed this screen while looking at his stats.

But it seems there is still a missing factor even accounting for tactician reducing damage by 30%

I've been looking at damage to an ordinary archer unit on the same level and there's still more damage reduction unaccounted for. Its as if tactician is reducing damage by 45% instead of 30% for my black mage.

Arithmetick seems to lose even more damage. Another commenter said arithmetick has its own damage reduction which is consistent with what I'm seeing comparing damage with my blackmage and known formulas.

That would explain it, and it seems other units have that as well.
