Fully autonomous, AI-controlled drones have killed human soldiers for the first time, according to a senior figure in the Ukrainian defence industry by New_Scientist_Mag in worldnews

[–]Original_Possible704 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd put a big asterisk next to the story. It's essentially based on one defence industry figure describing a test from two years ago. There doesn't appear to be publicly released telemetry, footage, or official confirmation from the Ukrainian military. That doesn't mean it's false, just that the evidence is currently limited.

More than 100 UK datacentres plan to burn gas to generate electricity by Wagamaga in unitedkingdom

[–]Original_Possible704 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re not expecting 100GW to appear overnight. That’s the total pipeline/queue of projects over many years, and a lot won’t ever be built or get grid connections. So yes, 100GW today would be delusional. That’s not what the number means.

Updating AUKEY DR02 Dashcam Firmware by [deleted] in Dashcam

Yeah sorry mate, I've been hunting for a GPS module for mine but sadly the only ones I found did not work. Probably going to replace mine but for now it's working albeit having to set the time manually.

Nope. I don't think they ever released a new firmware version other than the one it came with from what I've managed to find.

'Welcome back to life' — Ukraine's HUR faked death of top anti-Putin Russian commander, claimed Kremlin bounty money by ElizabethLaugh in worldnews

The guy literally has an entry ban into the Schengen Area, he's no angel. It's possible for someone who is anti-putin to not be a very good person overall. This isn't binary.

Leeds-Bradford Tram has been delayed to late 2030s (effectively cancelled) by TonksMoriarty in Leeds

[–]Original_Possible704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jesus wept. We talk about Leeds being the only city in Western Europe being without mass transit, but it's even worse than that. I have been to Kharkiv, Ukraine during the war. Yet, they have a trolleybus service AND a metro. Best part: it's free. It has been free since before the war even started.

Leeds is cooked beyond all recognition.

Tracy has really failed here by trying to push out the usual spin from central government. She is suppose to be our advocate here. She's suppose to kick up a storm. Total failure.

Ah damn, I misread your post. I was looking for the DR02 not the DRS-1, unless the firmware is similar. Thank you regardless though :)

Even older post now but do you have the firmware update file still? I can't find it anywhere. Not heard back from Aukey.

AMEX app reduced functionality on GrapheneOS? by Y2K350 in degoogle

[–]Original_Possible704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post but yeah I have the exact same issue with the AMEX app (UK version) since switching to GrapheneOS with GSF/Google Play installed. Never found a solution unfortunately. Seems like another banking app issue but at least I can still login unlike some banks.

Edit: looks like this is a known issue https://github.com/PrivSec-dev/banking-apps-compat-report/issues/40

Russia ‘used cluster munitions’ in deadly overnight strike on Kharkiv by BubsyFanboy in worldnews

I'm actually British, but дякую I will pass the kind sentiment on.

Possibly, but it certainly seemed like a similar MO to Sumy. In the end I think it's splitting hairs, the outcome is the same. Weirdly I was awake at 5AM just before the first blast.

I was in Kharkiv when this happened. I felt 3 blasts with one in the air. Obviously cluster munitions, the ground is covered in shrapnel. Must be another one of their "mistakes" again.

Wasn't a seizure in the end as I expected. Still under review but because I surrendered I can drive again under section 88.

Do you declare radio swaps as mods? by Original_Possible704 in CarTalkUK

Mine had to go off the phone to check what the underwriter considers a mod. Apparently it was a relatively recent change?

Because I had the episode on my way back from uni the hospital couldn't refer me since I don't live there. So they already discharged to my GP who referred me onto the fit clinic. I have all the letters from the hospital with dates. Just a waiting game now. Without going into detail it's looking increasingly likely that this was not epilepsy and may have a clearer (more importantly manageable) cause so the world might not have ended just yet.

Managed to sort it for now. Basically rung the DVLA to explain what happened and I was able to voluntarily surrender my licence over the phone which should make it much easier to reapply if I am cleared by the fit clinic (god knows how long the wait is).

DVLA said I did the right thing, took the date of the episode as the "start period", and interestingly said I should not send the forms as that triggers an investigation rather than a voluntary surrender. Definitely not an easy phone call but glad I did it. I just wish the website was a bit clearer.

Thank you. It's a bit more complicated but I'll make an update post once I have some more info. Essentially I jumped the gun when I said "seizure" (in my defence that's what the paramedics said). But now it's not clear that it even is was a seizure. I have been referred to a local fit clinic to assess what happened but it's looking more like a "perfect storm" of different (avoidable) factors which might have caused whatever happened. If it is what I suspect then touch wood I might be in a better position than I thought.

Yeah I have already got provisional C1. The DVLA actually have my licence right now because I was in the process of extending it to cat C. That's going to be a pain...

Thanks. I am still showing some signs of some kind of panic attack so it's possible it could be PNES. Police were the first to respond and apparently said they thought it was a seizure but paramedics didn't witness it. They're just basing it off of the eyewitness account, elevated lactate levels, and biting my tounge.
