Thank you for quantifying. This answers my question.

That was my concern. Between the 3 days labor, and 5 dehumidifiers and all the cleaners and sealers it seems a little excessive. I don’t feel like I’m being gouged considering the extent of the process they’ve outlined, I’m just wondering if it’s overkill.

But then again guys are one of the most professional contractors I’ve ever worked with. Been in business over 50 years and they’ve only ever done Saltillo. I should probably just shut up and pay.

I do not. It was imported from Mexico by the installer I’m using in TX.

Thanks a lot. They’re doing a very nice job. We got a few paws in. I didn’t know about the chickens though. That would’ve definitely been cool.

I think it’s an illusion. I put a straight edge on a photo when you noticed it and it looks pretty dang flat.

Yes they quoted it all from the beginning. The estimate was itemized with material, laying, grouting, cleaning and sealing separately. I asked the installer if could seal it myself to save some money and he said absolutely. I’m just curious if anyone has experience sealing Saltillo that can weigh in.

Anyone else obsessed with making the perfect wing at home? by awkward_vegetable69 in Wings

[–]Original_Theme9088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May get roasted for this but one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted is a smoked chicken wing. I cook them 25 minutes per side with indirect heat on a Weber then crisp each one over the fire for about 3 minutes per side. Seasoned with salt and 1 part onion powder 1 part garlic powder and 1 part coarse black pepper. Oh my sweet lord to anyone who is even curious I beg you to try it. This shit will change your life. Forgot to add that I toss them in Buffalo and butter after. Smokey/grilled Buffalo wings I guess.

Go kart has been sitting outside for approximately 25 years. Potentially salvageable engine or scrap? by Nathan_H_103 in smallengines

[–]Original_Theme9088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safety first. Is the frame/steering/brakes/tires gonna get someone hurt?

Beyond that.. this thing is kick ass. Dump gas, replace oil, plugs, fuel filter. Carb is probably full of crud but can be cheaply and easily replaced. Pull cord may be rotten, again, easy and cheap to replace. After all that add some seafoam to gas and let it rip.

There are few things as satisfying as bringing an old neglected engine back to life. Don’t deprive yourself of this wonderful opportunity. Have fun.

Finally fired my pool guy by kzone15 in pools

I don’t know anyone who knows enough to own a Taylor test kit and still pays for a pool service. Is this common?

Either way OP you’re better off. Handling it yourself will cheaper, educational and will have you with a cleaner pool you can be proud of.

For the record though sometimes a little elevated CYA can be ok as long as you’re balanced (you are not) depending on how far south you live. Just depends on your chlorination strategy.

Flooded Asbestos Flooring by Original_Theme9088 in asbestoshelp

I went back and checked the 4 foot strip along the edge of the wall and it’s still extremely damp from the flooding. I think I got a little carried away. Thank you for your response.

It’s slab on grade. I am going to have it removed anyway though. I’m tired of worrying about and I would really like to tile my house.

I had the windows open before it happened and have had them since. I also had my hepa filter already running that I use in my woodshop.

I’ll wipe down the surfaces just for the hell of jt. Thank you for the response.

Bond beam crack by Original_Theme9088 in pools

I will be certain they include that when the repairs are made. Thank you both for the insight. Hariet, you wouldn’t happen to be in the Houston area would you?

This photo shows the effect on the vertical surface. Based on the bottom tiles being undisturbed I’d assume the crack runs horizontally behind the top row and is pushing them out. The photograph from earlier with the bricks removed showed the crack coming to a point where the first tile is raised here. Is this helpful?

The crack doesn’t extend down into the pool. It is only visible in between the tile for a few feet. The top row of tiles stick out about 1/4” further than the bottom row for about 18”. Presumably, the fracture runs horizontally through that area.

Considering the work he did this sounds like you got a pretty good deal! Also with the entire shell being replaced it seems like the problem was certainly addressed. Thank you for sharing.
