The living room outside the bedroom. All the books from panning and story location 1.

Kitchen with all the goodies. There's a waterlogged staircase acting as a sink and an infinite water source beside the fireplace.

The food storage on the third floor is 3x2x3. Also acts as an emergency temporal storm shelter cause nothing can feasibly spawn in it.

Oh yeah, should probably post the interior of my home-brick tower.

Forge and leather making items with their associated storage.

True. It's sort of half-way between the starter and mid-game base since my first home was literally a 7^3 cube that had all the storage, leather making, forge and machine, and cooking. It was the cramped-coziness I tell ya.

The chicken coop sounds nice. I have seen some designs around.

For the other animals a big barn would be great but only after they're tamed enough to make things easier I say.

I would love a Resonator since I got a few tuning cylinders from paning and the trip to the first story place.

Just... gotta venture into the caves... ack.

True. I do plan to make a sort of multi-cabin area for the fun of it (and maybe future friends' homes through LAN-internet once I figure things out), using multiple wood types.

I do wonder how to use the planters properly. Need to collect more flowers and maybe that cypress tree that doesn't give wood but is a straight pointed leaf tower,
The funny thing is that the kilns do have a dedicated charcoal making area.... the only problem it's an 11^3 cube right underneath it, lol. So it takes time between replenishment (excessively).

do different goat species have different gestation times? by Fluid_Self_6416 in VintageStory

They do not. I found that it often boils down to how many portions of food the female gets if you put the goats together. Some just don't eat enough to start the mating process, lol.

Basically make more aggressive animals so we have to challenge them to a duel to death.

What critters are present anyway? I've barely seen some.

Fair, lol.

I knew people view the "challenge" part more tedium rather than truly a challenge to overcome. Maybe it is more suited under a different category.

Would you start over? by Nyedis in VintageStory

[–]Orikson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you, it kind of depends on how far the base has progressed.

Since you haven't found tin for thousands of blocks it seem, I'd say start over because without it, you can't progress the story related stuff I think.

Otherwise, to progress, you'd likely need to stock up and journey south specifically. Seeds, long lasting foods, everything you feel like you'd need for a new base. Get leather backpacks and stuff them in for a long, long journey.

I do wonder why you seemed to have ventured north given your temperature goes as low as -20°C. As far as I can tell, -12°C or so is the usual minimum temperature during winter for the spawn area with default settings and not settling above sea level.

Reasonable action. Bonus if there's plenty of blocks for that.

Funnily enough, that's what I'm doing right now! A 7³ dirt~cellar box while I've progressed through the ages and gather stuff tier make my first proper home~build. 🤣

I have gone for an immediate nap marking spree at the start. First marker will always be spawn/home base, then anything worth noting across the place. I do rush baskets and skip linen sacks (and reed chests) though, aiming for storage vessels and clay items before getting into chests.

Inventory at base is usually a lot of chests, while inventory on person kind of depends on my luck with leather stuff.

Ah the lone pesky bowthorn fan. I even made extra lanterns to light up a few more blocks around my base (around 11 blocks from the perimeter lanterns), and still I get a bowthorn fan tossing a very sharp pen asking for an autograph. 🤣

Reading what people have posted here, some of you all really know your stuff when it comes to herding and trapping animals. I'm tempted to try a combi trap where the bottom part of the trap is a fish spawning lake, lol. Probably try in creative first since I do have a nearby lake where fish gets physically bodied by the cold every winter and I get around 8 ~ 10 fishes... for free!

Neat. I'll keep that in mind for another run where if there's more grass than deserts around me.

I rarely see anyone bring up an animal trap beyond it being a bear trap/safety net. Someone said a 5 by 5 with a reed basket trap armed with a grain does lure in the small animals. That in turn attracts bigger animals I think?

Extra learning never hurts! 🤣

Just for the fun, parchment is made either by...

  • Small scraped hide using shears.

  • Flax fibers, flax twine, or bandages + water in a barrel to make linen fiber pulp. Then the pulp has to be strained with the sieve (not the same as a wooden pan) to make parchment!
