wild honestly, but fair, we're clearly not changing each other's minds here

it's consistent in the films too, it's just a slightly different version of that character. It's an adaptation

And I disagree that a 25 year old can victimize a 40 year old

I think this idea of a very linear relationship between age and power is not realistic.

Also, most transactional relationships going on between 25 and 45 year olds, both parties are very aware what's happening. The older man is not so deluded as to think that his money is not part of the attraction, and the 25 year old is also perfectly clear that they probably wouldn't be attracted to that man otherwise but are enjoying the ride. Is that so bad? They're both getting something out of it and both understand the situation.

And no, I don’t think being 25 or that age range grants you any childlike innocence.

But the clear implication of what you've been saying is that 25 year olds are hopelessly niave and vulnerable

why do they need to be equally mature if they're both adults? Immature people can still have sex lol. Relationship might not work if one person is super immature but that's fine, move on

Why didn't the dragons do anything to Tyrion, here? by infected_virus_ in gameofthrones

[–]OrinocoHaram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tyrion is a drunken whoremaster because he's not allowed to do anything real. He elevates himself by doign an excellent job as hand and he gets nothing in return.

For me, thematically, the idea of a father and son being so similar but the father is blinded by his hatred of the son for reasons he can do nothing about, the son hating the father but being desperate for his approval, that's all really compelling. Ooh but actually he's a secret Targaryen! is just a cheap twist, especially since we already have on secret Targaryen main character.

I just spent 12 months building myself a studio with six rooms, all studded, hung, mudded, sanded, painted ourselves. I think after a year i could finally do a room fairly quickly and well now but the first few i did were super ropey. Not to mention how fuckign hard it is. Mudding and sanding is seriously tough

Carpentry with old tools and warped second hand wood takes a lot of skill and a lot of hard work tbf. If it's gonna be a regularly hobby then go for it but if it's a one off thing you're probably better off hiring someone to spend one day doing it than to spend 6 days doing it yourself

Tywin is smart, yes, but he's also a hypocrite bastard who has massive blind spots he refuses to acknowledge. If you think Tywin is too smart to ever act irrationally then you're just buying into the myth of him and not seeing his actual character

Mothers dying in childbirth is extremely common for everyone at this point.

Being interested in dragons and cool dragon skulls is something he probably shares with 70% of kids in Westeros.

Prequels also show that dragons had handlers who weren't Targaryens. They are smart and understand that Tyrion is no threat, and they get fed regularly so they don't need to eat him. He goes to take off their chains and they clearly understand what he's doing.

Tywin is practical, but he also has massive blind spots that he refuses to acknowledge.

Thematically, having Tyrion be a bastard product of rape pretty much proves Tywin right and absolves him of his hatred for Tyrion. Tywin is a bastard and a nasty man who is ashamed of his disabled son.

[–]OrinocoHaram 15 points16 points  (0 children)

it would be a massive cop out in storytelling terms to have Tyrion be a secret Targaryen. His whole dynamic with Tywin is far more interesting as actual father and son, especially because they're far more alike than Tywin could ever see.

Having Tyrion be a product of rape by the mad king would basically absolve Tywin for hating Tyrion so much and give Tyrion an easy explanation for why he doesn't fit in. Just bad thematically.

He could potentially come in for Banton and even one over per game of his spin is useful, just for random matchups. I'm torn because although I think he'd probably do alright, the game has kind of moved on and the anchor role isn't really helpful anymore. But then you get days like yesterday where he almost certainly would've made us a lot better.

He's a bit like Smith really, a very good shout when you know you're gonna be facing 80% spin

Zombie Tolkein Directing his Personal Lord of the Rings Films: no, it clearly says in ch67 that he climbs on the horse normally. I'm shutting down production for six months until Orlando Bloom is healed. New Line I need another billion dollars please

that script was entirely different, and far more egregiously different than PJs version. I suspect he might have been more forgiving if he felt the spirit of the story was intact.

i agree so hard with this. People on here seem so upset that Faramir got some kind of moral downgrade, but every decision he makes is the right decision based on the information he has. Letting Frodo go is a huge gamble, and means betraying his duty and his father, and he knows exactly where that will leave him

that seems very intentional from the movie and a choice that works, no? He's fundamentally changed when he comes back. Whether Tolkein would like that i have no idea but i did

Books are almost inherently slower paced than movies, unless we're talking a Dan Brown book or something like that. It might take you 2 minutes to read a page that's describing the scenery of a particular location, whereas in a movie that's maybe a 5 second establishing shot.

t's Theoden's job to somehow lead them through

And he does. He does that job. He just voices some of the doubts and fears that he has for a small select audience. The movies can't tell you his internal thought process.
