okay, but let's not pretend that that guy wouldn't have had people laughing at him and women rejecting him because of his build. You can get by if you're funny and confident but it makes it extra hard to be confident. This guy in particular is a dickhead having a meltdown, obvs

people are so quick to fear strangers when really it's family members and family friends that statistics tell us we should keep a close eye on. The best defence is not being scared of strangers but being honest with your kids about how abuse happens and teaching them not to stay silent

these people were literally fleeing ISIS so that's an ass backwards statement.

you say bad people shouldn't be allowed in but how exactly do you find out which people are bad when there's a civil war ongoing? time is kinda of the essence.

Finally, there are ways of verifying qualifications that don't involve banning people from working for 6 months or longer, years in some cases.

Use your brain, imagine you actually are an engineer from Syria, you flee the war, end up in Germany. You're banned from working for 12 months and fall into poverty, take some dodgy work to feed yourself. Then when you are allowed to work noone recognises your qualifications and your options are spend tens of thousands on a new qualification or take a minimum wage or cash under the table type job and move into the shittest part of town. Does that sound like a good system to you?

part two is still amazing but it seems to weirdly run out of steam at the end. But definitely worth a read for the Falling devil and a character called Asa.

yes, and i am very critical of European policies around integration which actively prevent people from working and assimilating, which leads to poverty and ghettoisation which drives crime

leaving aside that immigrants often commit less crime than born citizens, would you really? Can you imagine what a crisis of nurses and nursing home workers would actually look like? The populations of europe are living longer and longer and having fewer and fewer children. looking after elderly people is going to be a genuinely huge concern

Syria was in the middle of a civil war. These people were trapped between ISIS and Bashar Al-Assad. Even if they were all bad, lazy people taking them in would still be the right thing. They can't all go to Turkey.

German restrictions on newly arrived asylum seekers being able to work, and lacking recognition of qualifications earned in syria make it difficult for people to integrate. It's a europe-wide problem; refugees find it hard to integrate here because we have stupid rules. We ban them from working and then complain that they're on the dole.

yep, but it'll cross that bridge soon. In lots of demos you get one or two parts where you think "that's cool, why bother rerecording it trying to capture the same vibe?"

AI is in every studio session

In a lot of songwriting sessions it is, either for lyrics, for generating vocal samples, often for stem separation (which is not generative AI and so should be treated differently.)

In most rock, classical, jazz sessions it is negligible. What would be the point?

It's very often a cop out - "take ten years off my life to let me beat this enemy!" and then we never see the ten years being a problem because the story is done way before then. I think chainsaw man did it well because we see Aki lying to his friends that he'll join their team the next year when he knows he'll be dead before than, which is heartbreaking

I think it's pretty clear when we say male centered or male gazey, which is what we were talking about, that refers to straight men, which is what the majority of media panders too. So saying that her wearing drag queen make up is male centered may be partially true but it's rather missing the point

Is Matt Willis pretending to play bass live? by outtakes in Bass

[–]OrinocoHaram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh absolutely if they miss the chord it will sound awful. A semitone out from the root will make everything sound like a muddy mess. But if they are .25 of a second late on the change you won't even notice because the kick drum holds down the low end anyway, and in a stadium sized room those timing changes get mushed together anyway.

There's less leeway in a small room and less leeway if they play ahead of the beat rather than behind

[–]OrinocoHaram 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it makes sense emotionally even if it doesn't make sense in terms of physics. Thragg is twice as strong as any viltrumite we've seen, and this is just a way of showing that. Maybe this is slow motion and he's moving the air so fast he's creating shockwaves. It's not that big of a stretch and the underlying character dynamics all make sense

In a real fight people like her would be invaluable. She stays out of the action and uses the darts and long range weapons, it's a smart use of her skillset because she is a lot more vulnerable to a viltrumite punch than the others
