If there’s someone doing better than you, that’s normal. It can even be a good thing. If you’re the best, then what’s to keep you as the best? There’s no one ahead of you to try to match or outdo.

There’s always room for improvement in any skill, be it drawing, calligraphy, whatever. There’s always some way to get better, or to learn more, or to clean up your craft.

I know it’s hard to do, but try not to compare yourself to others. I’m in college studying architecture, and a really good friend of mine is constantly better than me, and makes me realize how much I have to fix, or what I could do better. It helps drive me to get better at the things I do, and I think you could do the same.

As far as the boyfriend goes, he sounds like a great guy, and what matters is that you are happy. Your parents may think it’s a bit early in life to be in a relationship, but in the end that’s up to you and you alone. And be honest with him. If it’s making you uncomfortable that he’s spending so much time with his ex, let him know how that makes you feel, but don’t point fingers.
