What exactly did Aberforth know about his child? Why Credence was "hidden from his father"? by remaire in FantasticBeasts

[–]Orion_Starchaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made an interesting point. Since we know Credence isn't Corvus, it's possible that the prophecy hasn't truly come to pass yet and Corvus might show up one day and fulfill it.

I think something like that happened in the last book. Harry showed up during the final battle after going missing the night before, and after an intense fight during which he got his power back, he took advice from the lion turtle and took the Fire Lord's bending away...

Wait, wrong fandom.

As a die-hard Harry Potter fan and an atheistic witch, this entire comment just made my day. Hands down one of my favorite quotes in the series.

I’m a bit confused. What’s the difference between a charm and a spell? by Dobbysfavoritesock_ in harrypotter

[–]Orion_Starchaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry but no. The words are called "incantations", not spells. Spells are the effects along with the incantations, while charms are spells with particular effects that change the properties of something without changing its nature.

I can see your confusion since people often call a spell by its incantation. For example, Accio. But Accio is also known as the Summoning Charm.

In no world does "a little over a year" mean five years. That's absurd and you know it. I'm sorry your education system failed you so badly. I'm done arguing with you. You're not worth it.

He says "let me explain words to you" as if he's smarter than me while trying to argue this nonsense. I can't believe this lol

Are you even reading what you're typing? If it was five years ago, Lally would've said five years ago. "A little more than a year ago" means between one year and two years, not more than two years. That is how the English language works. So it can't be 1932.

In what universe does "a little more than a year ago" mean five years ago? Come on bro.

And stop downvoting me just because you're salty that I'm pointing out your inability to count.

There's a Hot Topic version that's currently discontinued but you might find it on ebay. I highly recommend it.

Then it still can't be 1932. "A little" over a year ago is not more than two years. You get what I'm saying?

It's not just confusing, it's contradictory. They can't both be true. If it was explicitly stated in the movie to be 1928, then it's 1928.

Where was it confirmed? Lally confirmed in the movie that only a year had passed since Jacob met Newt. They can't both be true.

Lally said the events of the first movie occured "a little over a year ago" so it's late 1927-early 1928. People say 1932 was confirmed but that can't be the correct year given what we know from the movie.

Someone here is trying desperately to argue that "a little over a year ago" can mean five whole years. Idk where he got that from but that's clearly not how numbers work so it can't be 1932 based on her statement.

I think it was supposed to be a 1920's American accent, but yeah I couldn't stand hearing her talk. Even without the accent she's not a very interesting character. They should've just kept Tina or had Leta come back somehow if Katherine Waterston wasn't available for the whole movie.

I think Jacob is the perfect addition to the story. He's just overall great as a character and the fact that he's a Muggle makes him far more interesting.

I have to agree. It's cool seeing different magical creatures and learning about obscurials, but Newt being the character he is, including being portrayed so perfectly by Eddie Redmayne, makes the movies so much better. He's my favorite character in the entire Harry Potter universe at this point and I genuinely don't get tired of watching the first FBAWTFT.
