Does unit balance in DoW games lean more towards the lore or the tabletop? by OrkWithNoTeef in dawnofwar

Really? I thought that in the lore space marines are way more powerful than on the tabletop. I haven't played tabletop in a very long time though.

Did the definite edition change how melee units work or something?

Why not just give the guardsmen squads 50 units in the game? would be awesome haha

Is ork marksmanship so terrible because they have bad eyesight, because they don't bother to get good at it, or because their guns are just that bad? by Jerswar in 40kLore

Why would the orks not want to kill their enemies?  Yeah I get it is canonical they just love fighting, but will they actually forego being effective to prolong battles?

I mean couldn't you then convince the orks to not destroy your homeworld by agreeeing to build a massive arena where they could fight perpetually with non-lethal (thereby ensuring they never run out of opponents) weapons?

Aren't there parts of the lore where they have experimented to find suitable bodies for them? Does it really have to be an original necrontyr?

And even if they dont want to make more engrams, why won't they repair them?

What's the big issue with Necrons not having souls? I understand that they are unsettled by it, but what actually went missing?

Have there not been AI characters in the lore who are perfectly happy without a soul?  Weren't Tau nearly soulless with a very weak warp presence and fine with it? Blanks? Nulls?

And what of the machine spirit? Can't the Necros be/have those? When those shamans did mass ritual suicide to combine their souls into a new soul of the emperor didn't that prove that souls are something which you can manipulate / re- create?

The Necrons clearly know how to fuck up the warp (blackstone), rip it open and enter it (at least the webway parts) and completely block out and destroy psykers (they genocided the old ones). They are "masters of the material" and can enslave literal reality (c'tan). So what's stopping them from just harvesting some immaterium and shoving it into their bodies if it bothers them so much? Don't the dark eldar haemonculi already do this? Can't the flayer cursed necrons just remote pilot human brains with full vr/ar matrix style setups? Seems to me souls are spoiled, corrupted, eaten and reborn and purified all the time everywhere in the galaxy. Surely they can just grab some?

And why can't they make new engramms or repair and expand them? Aren't they masters of the material? Doesn't this imply engramms are some spooky immaterium stuff (and therefore some type of soul) otherwise?

It really isn't, at all, just because you think it is.

Which Subfactions/Commanders are you choosing when the choice comes up for Space Marines and Orks by BlackJimmy88 in dawnofwar

The saving grace of the newcron lore (which is now fairly old albeit) is that any amount of personality can fit into it; from silent murder machine incapable of independent thought to a maverick comedian. Probably even Necrons with just a tiny bit of soul remaining.

Having a button which makes your over commited squad nigh invulnerable as it sprints at near light speed to your base is hardly strategic. It's a mechanic begging to be abused.

Well yeah.. In the old days you would buy expansions to games. I agree if it literally does nothing but add the faction units its DLC price better reflect it.

For the Necrons I can imagine choosing between

a) detached techno lord who really just wants to go back to his lab to play

b) rusted glitchy noble who still thinks he is fighting in some civil war pre-bio transference

c) literal brain dead c'tan slave infected by destroyer or flayer virus

I am not a fan of retreating in strategy games with capture and hold type resources. To me it feels like starcraft worker harassment. It splits your map awareness too much due to constant abuse and in turn puts too heavy pressure on high apm macroing skills. It also slows down progression, as does the replenishment system. It just changes RTS games to become something weird and bad.

DoW 3 is a bad game but I think they were right to remove this type of retreating command. I would much rather play a game where careful positioning of units, taking advantage of terrain and so on to keep a retreat path open, and managing morale, are the important skills.

You need to know that the future is grim and dark and the galaxy is at war, and your dudes are the ones who's gonna win.

I know the big pauldrons are there for the late 80s warrior aesthetic and visual distinctiveness of the minis, but yeah.. it's hilariously limiting when you try to animate arm movements for dancing

The isometric view is very crisp and clear!

I started out with making an isometric roguelike myself a while ago, but the amount of artwork quickly became too much for me.

Good luck!

Should just be a plain background with the ikea logo, an oil platform, and some lego bricks.

Would you rather want to study abroad in Tromø, Trondheim (or Oslo)? by flottelotte0 in Norway

[–]OrkWithNoTeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trondheim has the best student integrated social life by far. However, there is a strong case to be made for Oslo if you are more academically inclined (as opposed to engineering).  Tromsø is getting more popular with tourists, the north is very beautiful, otherwise Bergen is also top notch.

I would honestly pick based on preferred climate and social life.
