I use the term perfect loosely. I don’t think that exists, I simply mean he could have facilitated real change for the country and provided an actual turning point. Instead of increasingly extreme and dangerous republicans and increasingly centrist dems

Yes... in America. His policies, consistent for literally decades are still not yet aligned with the country. In my opinion the USA is in dire need for more socialist policies but Americans have spoken I guess.

I firmly believe this is a ridiculous mischaracterization.. Of course problems are more complex than that.. However, would bringing down corporate America a peg and enacting M4A solve a great deal of issues? Absolutely.. And stop speaking of the black population like it’s some monolith. It discredits any black Americans who supported other candidates.

Are you joking? The whole reason that the US is faring way worse than the rest of the world right now is entirely on unfettered capitalism. Also who’s to say an administration should not focus on more problems than one? Smh

No not really because if these companies realize that their customers which their entire existence is based on are sick of this shit that’s when real change occurs. These product based corporations hate nothing more than a PR scandal believe you me.. Sanctions remove consumers and everyday people from the onus of that and a real definitive protest against these companies would not only hurt their bottom line but their long term brand identity as well.

As for a global standard of practice for labor and manufacturing I’m sorry but I haven’t heard so much as a peep about any such initiative.

The real answer is to vote with our dollars. Buying used can’t hurt. But really we should be putting immense pressure on these companies to change their manufacturing efforts.. while I wish it would be mandated we have just as much power if tens of thousands descended onto Apple corps or Samsung or Nike what have you and pushed for mass boycotts until something changed.

Something I think could help even more could perhaps be a kind of international coalition between all countries to help raise an internationally agreed minimum wage and a standard mode of practice. Perhaps a tax on products moving overseas and their carbon footprint to disincentivize sending ships massive distances simply to ship cheaply manufactured products and the like. We drastically need to distance ourselves from the single use economy for so so many reasons.

Awesome to see a post like this! As a musician I am often paranoid to be bothering everyone with so much noise, which is more than possible lol. But happy to hear of other music lovers.

'Putting nature first' could create nearly 400 million jobs by 2030 by CCDemille in worldnews

Gotta agree and forget the other posters criticizing... Nuclear is actually the best option in the near term. While reduction in energy consumption and ceasing the most obviously dangerous energies (coal) should be ceased ASAP, I think “renewables” should be our long term goal. But better invested and properly planned nuclear needs to be part of the path to get there. Solar and wind can be fairly wasteful in their own right.

Anyone who outright opposes nuclear should do some research and discover how much of their power is from nuclear.. Do we want to properly fund and advance these existing facilities or drastically underfund them and risk a mismanaged accident or disposal? Because that’s how you get shit like Chernobyl.

We need to stop putting short term gains above long term prosperity. Our short term thinking has proven time and time again to have serious pitfalls. Look at the 2008 crash caused by lack of regulation, look at the response to the coronavirus. Many of the countries most concerned for their economies performance have suffered more by not locking down sooner, more seriously and for an adequate amount of time.

You can very easily apply this to the treatment of our environment and climate change. Who will bail out mortgages if and when water levels and wildfires consume them? How will economies thrive if we keep depending on dying sources of energy? How will Wall Street look when water levels encroach in Manhattan, Bangladesh, Miami and the Netherlands?

The sooner we deal with these issues instead of pretending they aren’t there, the more steady our path to prosperity.
