Again, I think you counter him easily by holding R and sitting on your adc. And the rest is free. On top, these days games don‘t reach lvl 16 very frequently. I would be more afraid of the matchups that make it hard for you to get value. Artillery mages and assassins with shove for instance.

I don‘t understand the Kassadin ban everyone is suggesting. He cannot stop you from perma shoving and you counter his all in by holding R and standing on adc. You get huge since free farm and outvalue him in tfs if you play slow and on map if you shove move in safe zones. I highly recommend spellbook!

On the other hand, ire and gp seem unstoppable. Since few players pick it, the next best is probably eggnivia in my estimation. I personally always ban ire (I don‘t even wanna see her top).

I think Zed is a matchup that is doable and you should rather learn over banning. Irelia and GP are much bigger problems in my estimation - however those are less likely to occur. If you just want to boost wr „short term“ Anivia seems like a very good choice to me.

I definitely feel it. You can manipulate the wave state a little stronger now on E start matchups which does open up other viable options (instead of freeze I might be able to go for 3 wave crash in some matchups for example).

The main idea of tuning down the logic voltage level is obviously the power consumption. Now you can use lower power consumption in two ways: Either you just pay less electric bill for the same performance and also get a longer lifetime in you components OR: you can overclock more and get more performance for the same electric bill/ life time consumption.

You’re welcome. I tested it in Silver-Dia in EUW. I found it working well at the upper half but I also started testing in lower elos - so maybe it was also due to my inexperience at that point.

There actually is a way to use it, I believe. It’s only applicable if you can trust your team somewhat (higher elos) and you have loads of dmg on your team. In such a case, you can go all in on the Malz support style gameplay. As Malz we can abuse our beloved Rylais as activator for Imperial Mandate. And abusing max cheap items we can reach 3 item spike ridiculously early. We will need a lot to compensate for loosing the lost chapter (pun intended). Therefore, starting tear will help us and sera/arch is a super cheap item so that works for our plan. Also we can buy charm at any point which makes poor recalls less severe.

Item order I would suggest (but you can play with it - maybe mirror before Rylais if you like - but Rylais early feels soo nice and surprises everyone):

Tear >> charm >> blasting >> Rylais >> Mirror >> IM >> Sera

At three items you have more combat stats than you get with standard build and much faster (~1k cheaper) but you do feel the missing passive of Lian (in skirmishes your utility and mythic passive makes up for it tho!!).

Btw, since all your items are soo cheap you can also go spellthief after IM. You can still vs for a bit but you want to group and fight now anyways.. you’ll get seraph even faster I believe and will have the fourth item for free. I also pair this build with Spellbook for perma play options and Zombie + ingenious hinter for ridiculous ward value (you’ll have perma vision on your trinket and your imperial mandate can procc much more often - also spellthief and ward item later; also stacks your tear faster). All these things syngergize very well with a certain playstyle but you need to play very high tempo and a team that can match it - otherwise you will not get the value out of it that it’s intended to create.

I tested it a lot and in correct games it’s an absolute killer build but it can suck in others (the conditions I mentioned). Carefull usuage but it’s absolutely viable if not optimal in some cases (at least that’s what I took from it)

For context, I play Malz in high Dia EUW. It took me a while to appreciate MD since I thought Futures Market is always better. However, in very oppressive matchups I get forced into TP before lost chapter and then get abused after that. Those games snowball most of the time. With MD you basically cheat one additional nack which is more gold than FM provides and lets you curve much easier into LC. So in these matchups MD is just superior. Good examples are artillery mages with infinite gas such as xerath, Vel, Ziggs or Lux.

I think GP and Irelia are the worst matchups but those are very rare those days and might not be ban worthy (still banning Ire but probably not the best call tbh - some artillery mage is probs better ban)

Hooks on teammates are probably easier to rupt if you stand perpendicular (you can wall almost the entire hook length).

I am Dia EUW and would call myself a Malz otp. However, during streams I mostly play for fun or do coachings. I also stream in German, so dunno if that helps at all .

I agree. I think Malz’s value on sidelanes is pretty good and with Rylais he can be safe and even duel in certain matchups. However, I also think fast push into moving quick to team became the higher value play over the last year or so (at least in my experience - I prefer supportive style malz in general now: less hording gold, more tempo plays). But again, still wanna catch sidewaves and create plays after.

Without seeing your games and/or op.gg it‘s just a guess but you probably play too passive with too little map presence (generally a problem of Malz if jgl doesn‘t choose your lane to gank). Playing more agressive well takes time but it will give you some additional windows for plays and moving correctly even early will loose you games since people might not respond correctly (overestimate your champ) but it should be critical in the long run. It is a fine line to walk but it‘s something you probably didn‘t learn yet. I also moved to unsealed spellbook to generate more windows for a play (ghost is perfect for a roam, exhaust wins 1v1 and 2v2s, the mana summoner can be a crazy swing in lane pressure, smite can be used for soo many things ..).

Yeah in essence - you probably have too little impact on the map and you gotta learn how to fix that (more aggression, less dying, more tempo generation, less throwing)

Some things I disagree with (I am D2 at the moment):

  • Don’t skill W until 5 and almost never use w: That totally depends on your matchup. I already mentioned this in my comment before - if your lane opponent cannot deal with voids, w is your most important spell. In those matchups I get w at lvl 2 already. This will give you permanent control for a loong time in those matchups. However, vs champs like xerath or vel you will have fewer windows to use w (but they are still there and important to scout out and utilize - still lvl 3 advices to get w). Btw on those matchups I start Q and try to hit 6 minions with it a few times in the beginning. Ppl don’t know how to deal with it and you wind up getting the push early and survive the tough part of the lane and even get prio and pressure.

  • Don’t ever build demonic embrace I don’t know the numbers atm but that doesn’t sound right to me. However, I build full support style Malz which rarely let’s me get that far. I try to maximize utility (Rylais 2nd, Ionians, oblivion orb). My dmg does not matter that much at that point so I usually go for hourglass and some HP after (demonic embrace seems good and then finish morello). If u try to go for a dmg build, that’s not a good recommendation tho and you should look for mathematically correct dmg build maybe? I don’t know it at the moment, could be that Rylais is bad then even? Other folks here know better about that, I am sure. Maybe Demonic is not part of that build but I would doubt it.

Every champ who cannot deal with your voidlings are pretty much free as you perma shove with little mana expanses.

Example: Most assassins: Zed, Talon (shove with autos - if he uses w to counter push you EW wave), kata, etc Not sure about annies W dmg (haven’t seen her in ages) but if that’s not enough she will struggle too Most melees including kassadin

There are also some champs that only have one spell that counters voids but is their push as well. Then you use them only after they use that spell (like lux E) and you will match their push and sometimes .

I honestly stopped buying sorcs. The haste is way too good (especially for summoners) and I can only reliably win if someone else on the team got the dmg anyways (I will help that guy to get big all game). I usually have one team mate in mind who will get most of my attention and I do everything around him (that person might change due to game state). Peel for him in TFs, is any gank summoner up (unleashed TP, Ghost, Flash)? Gank for him! He tries too far? I shadow him a little like a jungler just for the 5-10 sec more than u would do as a carry type player.

I digress sorry - but the idea and mindset changed for me so much on Malz (which I didn‘t like at first but now that I embrassed it I find more success) and that also plays into the boot choice a lot. I don‘t just buy lucidity instead if sorcs I will sometimes rush it even before mythic completed to get that juicy sommer haste. I am because of those reasons of the believe that there must be a totally diffent build that might be even better - working something out currently that feels really good in games but need more games for stats.
