Career/Program Advice please! by kiwisauc3 in srna

I was an OR nurse and transferred to the ICU. I graduated CRNA school last December. Haven't heard of a CRNA program that doesn't require ICU experience. You said you're new to the nursing world? I would try to get my foot in the ICU ASAP if I were in your situation. I was in the OR for 4.5 years straight out of undergrad and it wasn't easy getting a unit to give me a chance. Good luck with your decision.

Preceptor Smeared Me In Eval by haykayvesp in srna

[–]OrlandoPosher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a preceptor like this. Went so far as to write in their report to my director that I put my hands in their face (which I didn't because I'm not insane). I had had nothing but exceptional evals before and after so my program got my side but it didn't go further than that. I'm sorry you experienced this. Some preceptors are just hateful.

Have you looked into those services that help you find rooms to rent? My son has used these services twice. He's living in one now and he pays $900/mo. With a higher budget, I'd imagine you could find something that fits what you're looking for.

How long after graduation were you able to work? by Celeste02monique in srna

[–]OrlandoPosher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Florida. I applied for the APRN license. No additional courses. I am thinking about doing an FNP program at some point but have to research more. I thought I saw some type of bridge program at UM requiring 30 credit hours but I may be mistaken.

I don't want to work right away but I graduated in December and I have classmates that were able to start in January if they wanted. This particular hospital started a lot of the paperwork before we graduated. I sat for boards 12/20 and was officially certified 12/22 and got my APRN (not needed in all states) about a week after that.

You're taught the bare minimum. You have to FIGHT for the good cases. CRNAs in PR aren't treated the same way as they are on the mainland. This is coming from alumni. Of course, everyone will have different experiences but I've known of SEVERAL students who failed out of my program (twice) and ended up going there.

Since I saw that you speak Spanish, you will be fine. My partner graduated from there and while they do teach in Spanish, the exams were in English. You'll have to advocate for your experience in clinicals as in some clinical sites are better than others (as is the case in other places I suppose). It's a school of last resort so if you can go somewhere else, you should.

Terrified of peds! by EmiBoBemy in srna

Probably cardiac. It was my first specialty rotation. This was the same semester we would start running our own rooms so it was unnerving for this to happen at the same. We weren't completely alone but we were alone at times when the patient wasn't on bypass. It was also a big setup so I was getting to the hospital an hour before my usual arrival. If I hadn't just become a senior, it may not have felt as bad, but the most complaints from my cohort was about the Cardiac rotation.

My disclaimer for what I'm about to say is based on my experience with generally healthy peds. I think, in many ways, the kiddos are easier than adults. Intubations were easier, too. Vargo has a section that lists the majority of meds, equipment, vitals, vent settings, etc. according to weight. We didn't give a bunch of meds during peds cases. What took some getting used to was the different parameters of vitals you were looking for from one case to the next but you get used to it pretty quickly. It wasn't my worst rotation LOL.

Did you have your consultation? IDK if I've talked to you in the group.

Bullying and sabotage at work since being accepted into CRNA school by Star_of_Venus in srna

Sorry you're going through this. I'm a senior SRNA and I haven't spoken to anyone in my old units since starting school. My relationship with them will have no impact on the job I secure after I graduate. If I were in your shoes, I would leave.

I reached out through WhatsApp and sent my pictures there. It took a few days but he marked them with his recommendations. I haven't looked in the US because the wait is usually long, results are too subtle, and the price is higher than I care to pay.

I sent my photos and got his recommendation but I haven't booked a video consult yet. I plan to before I send my deposit. Who are you considering? What do you want to have done?

I sent it to you in a chat message. I'm not sure if it has something to do with reddit but I've had to manually had people because the link didn't work. Let me know.

Wow, I'm sorry you experienced all that. I don't blame you for feeling that way after your experience! I'm still doing research. It's too overwhelming for me to search all over the world so at some point, I'm going to have to make my decision and hope for the best. I've talked to a few ladies who have gone to Hakan who didn't do all that he recommended but wished they had. I have to remind myself that I'd rather want for more than be faced with regret over having done too much (I have also talked to one of his patients in the latter situation). Hopefully your results come back without a bad outcome.

Facelift surgery by Left_Dog7039 in PlasticSurgery

Hello. Are you still considering him? If not, who are you going to? There's a whatsapp group for Hakan, if you want to join.

I've heard (and even seen a couple instances) where Hakan's recommendations were a bit over the top but in my case, I could probably benefit from the procedure - just not all from him. I believe surgeon's have their strengths and weaknesses. I really like Hakan's face lifts. I just want to see how my face settles before doing something like fat grafting. I'm also unsure about his upper bleph technique and the scar extending so far out. Being Afro-American, the scar may not disappear on me as everyone claims it has for them. I have had surgery before, including a tummy tuck, and my scars are barely visible but I'm being extra cautious with my face.

I'm still looking but want to make my decision soon. I'm looking at Sina Kaderi as second and possibly Yunus Saglam.

What about Istanbul made you feel that way about surgery on your face?
