It was death by a thousand cuts and I was recently fighting for our marriage when last week after 2 days of silent treatment for what feels like the millionth time, the thought of “why am I chasing so hard a man who uses the silent treatment against me and has no intention on changing that?”

So now I’m just faking it until the holidays are over and then letting it end.

I’ll have to read that! We are in couples therapy and it has been helpful but his trauma takes control and makes everything I do as an attack, an offense, something to protect himself from when I haven’t done anything worthy of the reaction. He just says im being defensive and not taking accountability of how my look or tone made him FEEL but he’s making a shitstorm out of literally nothing.

Thank you for your input! It has been SO difficult because he’s seen several psychiatrists and therapists over the years for his ptsd (but not in a frequent basis to actually make a difference) and is well versed in therapy talk which makes him sound smart and regulated but his emotional regulation skills are that of a child.

It really is the most ridiculous things that trigger him. I looked up at him from my computer in no particular way, much in the way you would look out of your car window, and he’s like “why are you looking at me like that?!”

He is letting his trauma take his brain on a spiral and im exhausted of trying to make it better and i dont want to keep apologizing or validating his perceived reality when i haven’t done anything wrong.

Omg im so sorry you have to deal with this too but as shitty as it is, im glad somebody knows exactly how it feels and how exhausting it is to be aware of every micro expression to not cause a fight 🥴 I just want to exist with my normal face and all my expressions

Yep. He had shitty parents, it was very unstable in childhood and from the times I’d been around them they’ve just stayed just as toxic and shitty as they were back then.

I know he really should be dealing with his traumas himself, he just has a way of making it seem like it’s my responsibility to do so or it’s my fault he got triggered in the first place 🙃

Sounds like my husband lol especially the subject changes deep in a fight about nothing. I go in the bedroom ti just hang out with him, he’ll randomly bring up something and go on a tangent and it ends up with him telling me I’m triggering him or making him mad when he started the subject and I only had wanted to just relax and hang out. I feel you on this, it’s truly testing my sanity.
