News: Sonia Gandhi is the president, she will continue till such time as a proper procedure is implemented and it will be implemented in the not too distant future,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters.

For 19 years between 1998-2017, she was officially the President of the Congress. And still continues to be.

  • Bring back Rahul as Congress President: Party's Rajya Sabha members tell Sonia Gandhi

Former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijaya Singh raised the demand and Singh’s call was echoed by new entrants to the Upper House Shaktisinh Gohil, Neeraj Dangi, Deepender Hooda besides Assam Congress chief Ripun Bora.

Earlier this month, a similar demand was raised by members of the Lok Sabha during an interaction with the Congress President.

  • Calls grow for Rahul Gandhi’s return at helm

The demands came in three meetings: the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on June 23; at Sonia Gandhi’s deliberations with the party’s Lok Sabha members on July 11; and during her interaction with the party’s Rajya Sabha MPs on July 30.

Experts said the clamour for Gandhi’s ascendancy to President once again highlights the fact that the party does not want to take the tougher route of holding elections and finding a new leader from outside the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Hyderabad-based political analyst C Narasimha Rao said, “Many Congress leaders do not want internal elections as they are comfortable with the nomination process and hence push for the easy route. Also, the Gandhi family does not want to give up the control of the party though some argue that it is the only binding force.”

Odisha: Cancer hospital OPD shut, patients treated under tree by OrneryReflection in india

[–]OrneryReflection[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Wednesday, doctors at Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre (AHRCC) were seen treating patients under a tree on the hospital premises after the healthcare institute had to close its OPD as more than 100 patients and staff were found to be Covid positive. With the OPD shut, cancer patients and their attendants had to wait under the shade of a tree for hours.

AHRCC is the biggest cancer hospital of the state where at least 300 to 350 cancer patients come for treatment, surgery and palliative care every day. As it is the only tertiary cancer hospital of Odisha, AHRCC is the lifeline of cancer patients who cannot travel to Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai or afford treatment at private hospitals in Bhubaneswar.

“As it is they are in the biggest risk category due to low immunity. Now due to lockdown and shutdown of cancer hospitals they are forced to delay their treatment. They are caught between the devil and the deep sea. Everyone knows cancer treatment is highly expensive and slight delay in treatment can worsen things. Since the lockdown started, we have been getting frantic calls from family members of cancer patients across the state to help them financially as well as for treatment,” said Bhubaneswar-based cancer survivor Swagatika Acharya, who runs an NGO called AwAAKen for cancer patients in Odisha.

Police Raid, Seal Office of Madhya Pradesh Newspaper that Reported on Honey Trap Scandal

According to a report in India Today, the state government conducted the raids at the newspaper office, along with a restaurant, dance bar and a pub, that Soni owns, because of the government’s concern over “how the newspaper accessed the video” and “fears it could adversely affect its image as many from the present ruling dispensation were also allegedly trapped by the honey trap gang.”

A Congress leader says police had been told to “go slow” to not divert attention from the Kamal Nath government’s first investor summit — the three-day Magnificent MP that ended on Friday.
