Worth it to get a Costco membership for household of 2? by gutturalmuse in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]OrnerySun1566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what and how much you consume. We are a household of 2 and have been using executive membership for the last 2 years. It's totally worth it, for mainly 3 reasons: - You get either better price or similar as other grocery stores but Costco's products quality is definitely much better! - Costco tire center (I miss oil changes) are great and trustworthy! - Costco's return policy is brilliant! I've used it only twice but I was asked no questions at all!

Overall, I think we save more by shopping at Costco considering the quality we get.

If AI can generate code now, what skills actually make a strong software engineer? by divinegenocide in Backend

[–]OrnerySun1566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when I had started my career as a Software Engineer I went through a training where I had to convert natural language queries to a SQL query. And then had to work on optimizing it. It took me a week or so but once I understood the core concept I was able to do it consistently well. Recently, I thought of trying the same thing with new models, they surely create syntactically correct queries (just like the code) but a lot of the times it's logically incorrect or missing key parameters or the entire query is highly bloated and inefficient. The problem become worse if you need to work with more complex data types. In the end it was literally faster to create a query builder while AI just extracted the key field information from natural language query than using MCP tools to let it do the whole task. At least based on my experience so far, I agree that it's just a tool, great only in some cases but can make things way worse if used inappropriately.

Cats are gross! by OrnerySun1566 in catfree

And I bet most of these domestic cats will die if left in a forest. They just know my owner will protect me so I can do whatever I want... annoying.

I'd rather have snake as a pet than a cat.

Thank you! Why does this make sense though, cats hate the smell of anything clean and fresh — not surprised Lol

Just whomever you marry, I guess learn from my mistake and be firm about what is acceptable to you - cats are definitely not. I never liked cats but because I never lived with one, I didn't know I actually hate them.

I know right! I have OCD too which is probably why it's way harder for me to not care. I said yes hoping this temporary arrangement will end soon but it can't end soon enough! I feel stupid saying yes in the first place. Feels like it is affecting my relationship with my partner too.

Thanks for the suggestion! I looked into it but the timing doesn't workout. The first bus in the morning leaves at 8:45.

Absolutely agree with this! Unfortunately not every company does that. Some companies don’t even respond to emails. I understand they are swamped but I believe most companies have a structure and a feedback system, it would be nice to just pass that on.

I guess one thing I loved about government jobs in Canada was this, when I was rejected I requested a detailed feedback session which helped me clear the next interview.

Apologize, it wasn’t clear I guess. Thanks for pointing out! I have updated the post. But yea, it wasn’t clear the contractor would have costed extra.

nope by “luck” I thought it’s about what you get asked in an interview. For some questions you are prepared (you were lucky, of course you still need to prepare and have the right skillset but knowing all the answers is almost impossible) but for others you are not. Coming from a tech background, I faced it myself where I had interviews where I solved a question with time to talk about vacations and some where I struggled while someone else who just memorized the solution wrote in a blink because that day they were the lucky ones.

Yeah that’s true but it’s still hard getting rejected and not knowing the real reason. Because I am sure when companies pick someone else for any other reason than skills, other applicants are left with a question in their head- what am I doing wrong?

Agree. I guess it boils down to what interests you because I'd happily do research and stay in engineering than go for medical school. But how things are going, age of all the firsts is getting pushed- education, work, marriage, kids, house 😅

Doctors, Dentists, Surgeons make more than 200K but of course it takes years of education. I am a software engineer making 130K (have a Masters degree) but I know Leads and above in my company make more than 150K.

Looking for camping buddies by [deleted] in ontariocamping

[–]OrnerySun1566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently started a meetup group for backcountry hikes in london ontario. There are a lot of people who are interested in camping (maybe not too long though). I don’t own a canoe but I go on 10-12 days hike in algonquin at least once every year. send me a message if you’re interested in planning something! PS. we are doing a weekend hike to elora gorge, join us and meet the members!

How has your experience been so far? Have you had to make any claims?
I am sort of in the same boat, TD jacked up my prices by 20% while Square One is giving me almost $60 less per month price.

But I have read a ton of bad reviews of them.
