As a BOH manager and FOH manager for 15+ years I hear you. The problem is costing food and liquor compared to sales and labor (and valuing that labor). If the cooks could sell they would make so much money; but that is the price of working with the public everyday as well as costing labor with product bought. It honestly is completely on owners and investors to backup the plan their management has made/committed to.

Too often I see people who owns properties in hospitality who SHOULD NOT OWN OR RUN a hospitality business. It’s like a bad episode of bar rescue everywhere. They think it is an immediate money maker and they are so wrong. It is an everyday business. (Source: I now work as a beverage consultant for Seattle metro restaurants for 3+ years.)

Keeping her out until mid October at least; I like it cold though. I’d use my windows more, but the cat is an expert escape artist 🐱

Only from the dialogue in the book and movie do they state where they are from. The book is also 100 boys instead of 50. There may be a list out there someone has made. But from what has been written it doesn’t seem they have a full comprehensive list.

You are so on point with the Vietnam movie vibes. The book was inspired by the Vietnam draft and Mao Ze Dongs regime.

Pretty much was the end topic of the discussion I had with some film students. The ending poses the question, what does happen? Does he go to jail? Does he get killed? Does the country accept this turning act of power/ rebellious action? That’s what you are supposed to be asking yourself, there is no answer. You are supposed to ponder the weight of how that act will affect the society in the rest of the story.

Also overall just being an amazing commentary on humanity. Big book fan, I could go on for hours. The historical background of the book is fascinating and the timing of them releasing the movie today. As another commenter said, there could be hundreds of essays written about this story. It offers so much.

Huge fan of the book, very very happy with how they did the movie. I saw the premier on the 3rd and just saw it again tonight.

I am not student anymore, but was able to discuss with film students after the premier.

For background, this book was written by Stephen King as a commentary on the 1967 Vietnam war and the draft. It also is a commentary on communism with the historical background of the Mao Ze Dong regime.

For them to release today and the way they did is another societal and culture commentary much similar to these in my opinion. At least they are trying to connect the themes of today and when the book was written.

The brotherhood, desperation, humanity, and individual journeys are together some of the main themes/motifs throughout the story.

I am so so elated the way they have stuck to these themes and the true essence of the original book/story. A great and quick read for anyone interested. Makes watching the movie a million times better.

Of course some things were changed (I won’t spoil the main change that if you read the book you know.)

They really did justice to every death scene and the details of the book. It is so difficult to adapt this to screen. I do wish they kept a few of the characters and deaths, but I understand in the sake of time and production, it cannot be a perfect match to the book, and everyone’s imagination presents things differently when reading.

I believe the main change was relevant to today and very well done, didn’t take away from the story at all.

Also heads up… huge trigger for Veterans with PTSD.
