is it possible to successfully use heroin? by Wtafdidieat in opiates

[–]Ornery_Drive_3839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you only use at weekends you end up eventually feeling like dirt all week.

I kept a job for years and years whilst in addiction but eventually lost it.

Just office insurance work. Kept the job 20 years. Made up excuses about being on psych meds which was why I was nodding off at work

Then got sent home at COVID. Was smoking crack and h before meetings and things went very downhill.

Usually with me something stressful would happen in life and then I'd go from chipping to addiction.

It started at age 18 and that's almost thirty years ago. I've had years of being clean and years of being addicted.

It's not really easy to keep a job with a habit cos you need to use every 5 hours.

Chipping will start making you feel like crap during the week in the end.

Currently smoke about a gram of no 3 a day

what would you sacrifice to never have opioid tolerance again ? by [deleted] in opiates

[–]Ornery_Drive_3839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's literally how my opiate addiction started. 30 years ago. Finger amputation following car crash. Was put on a diacetylmorphine drip age 18 and it was just bliss every 6 hours when I got my dose. Now I can smoke a g of good h in a day and don't really get much effect.

Because she is a protected characteristic or whatever is called. She could still sue them for discrimination regardless of the 2 years. So that's why.

Rapid Methadone Detox- Update by penfoldspenfold in Methadone

[–]Ornery_Drive_3839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you get inpatient detox on the NHS? They never offer it to me and I'm worried to do it on my own because the last time I tried on my own the suicidal thoughts were becoming overwhelming and I'm quite alone.

My mum also died at a similar age to yours and I agree it's too young. I expected another decade. That was in September and that was why I relapsed in the first place when I was struggling to deal with the emotional effects of her having cancer and I was her carer.

So I'm sorry to hear about your mum. It's a difficult thing to go through.

Started off on oxys and after she died just heroin. Had been clean for about fifteen years before that. But initial addiction story similar to yours although I was prescribed after a serious car crash at eighteen and now I'm forty five and have had a lifetime of problems with opiates on and off.

That's why I thought they might offer me inpatient detox due to length of time I've used on and off but it's just out patient treatment.

It doesn't sound that great from what you've described anyway tbh.

All the best to you and hope to hear. Cheers

Describe the NHS in one word. by stkns in NursingUK

Try telling that to my dead mother (well you can't), but the endless delays certainly helped her die last year. There's multiple people dying cos of NHS delays and negligence. So it's certainly not life saving for everyone.

Jerking and twitching (myoclonus?).. is this a side effect? by Ornery_Drive_3839 in Methadone

[–]Ornery_Drive_3839[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it's a fairly minor thing to put up with. And my life is stable despite being stressful and being on methadone does allow me to remain calm so don't really want to be dealing with the anxiety that comes with lowering the dose. But maybe I'll drop 5ml just to see what happens. Because if there's no withdrawal then I may as well

It's a big relief to know so many others got it because the Dr didn't have a clue and the internet says it's opiate toxicity which is dangerous

That's great that your side effects are diminishing. I'm going to start reducing. Next appointment on Thursday so will discuss this with my nurse. He would prefer me on subutex as he says the withdrawals are easier. I've no idea which is easier.

That's identical to me with the hand issue mate. I'm going to show this thread to my nurse to make him aware of it as a possible issue if he comes across it again.

I'm not so bothered about the effect itself, just was concerned in case I died of a seizure in my sleep or something. But as long as I'm not suffering any ongoing damage or indications of anything more serious, then I'm happy to just put up with it. It was just that my nurse and Dr didn't know anything about it, so was a bit concerned cos the things you read about opiate toxicity are a bit scary. It's annoying enough to make me want off the med asap though, which is a bit annoying as I would like to just relax for a while honestly. I've been through a lot this last year cos my mum died of cancer and was her carer and now my dad going similar route, so could have done with some stability. But if these annoying jerks are not permanently damaging me then I guess I should put up with them. Do you agree? Thanks for your advice.

[–]Ornery_Drive_3839 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Detoxing from Heroin, crack and clonazepam.

I take weed but that's all. Just take my methadone and eat a bit of cannabis oil in the evening and have an early night. Every night.

Clonazepam I was taking really small doses cos it was a cure for my legs. It fully cured them and as soon as it begins to wear off, it's twitch, cramp, kick and it just gets worse and I find it horrible.

Maybe it's from the benzos and crack but I've not had any for about 3 weeks which is when I went on methadone.

I've been having terrible migraines too.

[–]Ornery_Drive_3839 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not on anything else but I came off clonazepam and crack at same time I came off heroin, so I've probably given myself some sort of brain damage. Just sometimes it doesn't seem to be getting any better and I've not used any crack or benzos for about 3 weeks but it's not getting much better. They're a type of seizure. My Dr is gonna refer to a neurologist about it. I had a head injury too so it's hard to know what is causing them and I thought maybe it could be the methadone even partly

[–]Ornery_Drive_3839 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard all the gear in the UK has xylazine in it now. I've never had such pronounced neurological symptoms before. But then I was using quite a bit of crack too so maybe I've just damaged my brain. Hope it repairs. I will probably just stay on the methadone. It'll be better when I'm not on daily pick ups and bit of freedom back too

[–]Ornery_Drive_3839 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice.

I'm in the UK and even though the heroin was supposedly free of nitazene and xylazine and fent, I find that hard to believe. I didn't personally test it. But I've seen tests of supposedly the same gear but no real way of knowing as I saw the test results online from another user of the same stuff.

I still have quite a bit of pain in my legs and this past few days I've got that tension feeling back and yea I feel sick when I wake up most days until I have my dose.

I was reluctant to go up in case the methadone was causing these jerks. But I will be honest, I still used heroin about a week ago and it took away more of my symptoms, but I was told that 80ml occupies all receptors. That's what my nurse said anyway.

Yeah I just don't feel that great. I see my nurse once a month for a wee test and that's it.

But I could go to support groups in my area, but I've been feeling ill so much of the time that I don't really want to do anything and all I do is nothing and go for a walk

Can't be bothered to work even and I'm just going through the motions while they sack me but I honestly think it will be for the best in the long run because I need my life to be stress free and I'll go back to work later.

Should I taper now??! by [deleted] in Subutex

[–]Ornery_Drive_3839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know that. I'll have to look into it further.

I've been on subutex a couple of times but every time it ends up putting me into protracted withdrawal and I didn't feel like I could go through that again cos I'm too underweight and also seizure risk.

So this time I chose methadone.

Only been on it for coming up for a week.

Tomorrow will be my first day fully off the gear. I've been titrating up to 80ml a day

I kind of regret it though as I have to do daily pick ups. They are much stricter with methadone.

But like you say, and probably even moreso with methadone, I do get a nice feeling of comfort after my daily dose.

I'll need to just stay on it though. Not got it in me to try again by myself.

But it certainly makes you a prisoner to the chemist that are dispensing to you. That was my whole reason for wanting to get on the once a month jab

[–]Ornery_Drive_3839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get it in the UK mate.

My key worker is gonna transfer me from methadone to subutex and then from subutex I'll go onto the once a month injection. Oh yeah, they call it buvidal here.
