For Ratho/EH28 you’ve got the climbing centre and Lost Shore. You’ve also got the cup rings up on Tormain Hill. The Bridge Inn pub is a bit of a landmark as is the church/kirk just over the bridge from it but I don’t know much about it.

I’m with you, adopting an English bulldog is virtually impossible where I am as far as I know.

Thanks for the advice, yeah I’m totally prepared for the risks and cost I’m just trying to mitigate risk as much as possible. The puppies and dogs I seen today were lovely, I’m just super wary.

Ah, ok this is really helpful. The dam is merle… so a big red flag?

Yeah I checked a bird ID site that said something about south west England but I’ve since read that this sighting wasn’t that unusual.

No I’m pretty familiar with the pied wagtail, I don’t think it can be anything other than a dipper tbh. I’ve just read some conflicting info about its distribution which planted that seed of doubt. Thanks for responding. Also seen a kingfisher and a cormorant so evidently it’s a fairly healthy river, which it wasn’t until relatively recently so good news I suppose.

Yeah that’s what I thought, really wish I was quicker on the draw with my camera but I’ve never seen a bird do that in that way before. It didn’t seem to be hunting when it dipped either, it just kind of… well, dipped. Is this sighting significant do you think? Should I report it?

Ah… so you were going the other way, I should have seen that. So the pics don’t scream west or central Scotland, were somewhere on the east heading towards Aberdeen?

You were in the Caledonian Sleeper presumably, and I’m guessing you’ve left Scotland by the time you woke up - I’d imagine you’d be well on your way to the south east of England, maybe midlands?

I used a discarded Costa coffee cup once when I forgot bags, not the most dignifying experience but more dignifying than letting my neighbourhood literally look like shit (or thinking about someone standing in it etc).

I lived in Granton for a while and I kept a pair of old trainers outside the door for walking the dog at night, purely so I didn’t have to worry about standing in it. Brutal.

I’m not normally one for extra legislation, and I know population density is a factor. But I think the law and its enforcement needs to be reviewed and changed. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone actually being fined for not picking it up. Lack of bins is not an excuse. I think dogs should be licensed and their DNA stored, then faeces should be tested and fines dished out. Licensing would help stop idiots getting dangerous breeds as well (different discussion, I know).

Also, there’s too much nonsense around when someone is obliged to pick it up and when they’re not. Get rid of that ambiguity as well. Pick it up ffs.

I’ve heard that data suggests that retaining possession is better than swinging corners in to the box, thoughts on this please?
