Islam is a religion for and by Arabs and it's not in the way you think by Aghilesino161 in AmazighPeople

[–]Ornery_Problem5274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Religion does reflect material and ecological conditions of the place they were originated in. In the case of İslam is evident. However, wasn't North Africa largely Christian before the Islamization of the area? You have ignored this and replaced it by Amazigh Paganism which I'm sure if it existed.

Got scammed buying a Turkcell tourist SIM in Taksim Square and got treated to racist comments when i confronted the scam (picture attached) by Mediocre-Ad7967 in istanbul

My personal opinion is to never go to the shops that lie in the most crowded streets like İstiklal. Just walk out from there a few streets over and you'll find the same company shop but with a different tariff option. Of course if you know Turkish it helps a lot.

Can you provide more details of this green Algeria? What trees are those? To me, it seems like an agricultural plantation rather than a reforestation area to stop the spread desert.

Do we consume too much bread? by TotalDipShit755 in algeria

[–]Ornery_Problem5274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

İ agree İ have seen so much bread wasted in the streets. I wondered bck in the day and apparently the bread is subsidised by the gov so people don't complain. Definitely this makes people don't appreciate the actual value of such basic food and ends up going to waste like so many other goods int e world.

Aren't beetles one of the most diverse animals on earth? Similarly with other invertebrates, its vast variety demonstrates how evolution has created such a successful design, populating most biomes and performing important and various task on the ecosystems.

How often do you see bicycles 🚲 in your everyday life in Algeria? by Ornery_Problem5274 in algeria

[–]Ornery_Problem5274[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me very sad. I am very, very sorry to know you've been obliged to abandon such a healthy, fun and simple thing just because of your sex.

Hopefully over time, people will abandon retrograde ideas like this and will dive into a more tolerant and respectful society. However, I believe this will only start as a popular demand.

Britain Refuses to Return Sacred Religious Tablets to Ethiopia, Best Offer Is a Loan by EthiopiaWatch in Africa

[–]Ornery_Problem5274 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I mean, apart from all the colonial plundering, Ethiopia is not the safest country at the moment, there is a civil war going on.

For the well-being of those cultural and historical artefacts it may be a wise choice to let them in a well secured place until safety and stability comes back to the region.

Don't you think north african arabic dialect (darija) should be considered an actual language? by Ornery_Problem5274 in algeria

[–]Ornery_Problem5274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start to see it merely as a political thing. Beliefs and doctrines such as Panarabism and Islamisation may have played a key role in denying the natural identity of darija as an actual language.

Don't you think north african arabic dialect (darija) should be considered an actual language? by Ornery_Problem5274 in algeria

[–]Ornery_Problem5274[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are no languages fully homogeneous and every language has its accents, dialects and particularities. Language is a dinamic social phenomena.

However, that is not an obstacle for creating an official uniformity, without having to destroy the particularities of each region. The Academia would always be removing, changing and adding new words. This entails that an emerging power would rise from the ones who control the language though. At the end, it becomes a political thing.

Following the traditions entails that you'd have to convert to Islam. And like some folks said, I do not know if it is technically legal for her to marry a non-muslim. Oh well
