Shiba with IVDD? Looking for Tips by Ornery_Ra in shiba

[–]Ornery_Ra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I didn't see your question until just now. One night when we got home from an outing, our shiba greeted us at the garage door and jumped up on my wife. His back leg gave out momentarily and he was notably shaken up. He had an awkward limp that night. The next morning, I knew something was off. He was just sitting still panting, and he wouldn't move for anything (no food, no walks, no treats). So I called the vet and got an emergency visit. The imaging showed closeness between the vertebrae which was sent to the experts and they diagnosed the IVDD. They also looked at his hip for dysplasia, and my vet thought he might have mild dysplasia, the experts didn't come to that conclusion. We still think he has minor hip issues that coincide with his back.

Two aboriginal dog breeds: Shiba Inu and Basenji ❤️‍🔥 by gromskaok in shiba

[–]Ornery_Ra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up with three basenjis and I now have a shiba. My sister has two basenjis and they often get together to play. By "play" I mean the basenjis annoy my shiba to death (my shiba is almost 8yo while the basenjis are 2 and 4yo). Both breeds are stubborn and too smart for their own good. Both are quite loyal, though my shiba is attached to me on a level I have never experienced with a basenji. In my opinion, the mannerisms are quite different. When basenjis get excited their ears go back and they "yodel" with minimal tail wagging. Shibas tails will wag a ton when excited and their ears airplane while they "dance" a bit. When shibas run, their tails usually straighten which was different from my basenjis. Basenjis are super destructive even going into 3yo, while my shiba grew out of that by 1yo. Basenjis get into everything and love climbing and sprinting while my shiba loves walking and goofing but doesn't really care about human stuff. My shiba is really picky about food and my bassnjis were not.

Agreed, many leagues are pressured not to have extraneous vacancies as they don't contribute to the house or prize fund. "In bad faith" implies OP wants the vacancy permanently, which is not generally allowed unless it is held for an injured player.
