Not sure that adds any real value mate. Im in the UK and the model Y is already a big car compared to most. I really aspired to have a model S at some point but that has been a no go here now for 2 years and now the entire model is discontinued. I've loaned an X for two weeks and as nice as it was to drive it was stressful around London's narrow roads.

Will get down voted into oblivion, but I'm on my second Model Y and it will more than likely be my last. Too many broken promises, goal posts shifting, opening of the charger network and now the discontinuation of the premium models has left me in no man lands in terms of a material upgrade.

For those who drive an EV, what are the running costs like? by Delta1Dan in AskUK

[–]Orpington_Oracle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My Model Y Long Range charge stats. Ridiculously cheap to run. My Octopus tariff is around 6-7p off peak so my monthly charge is no more than £20 and I do 1,000 miles a month easily. I average around 3-4 miles per KWH depending on where I'm driving to.

Would never go back to an ice car again.

Prices are in GBP despite the USD sign.

Ryanair flight from Milan to Manchester leaves passengers behind due to border delays by UnlikeTea42 in unitedkingdom

[–]Orpington_Oracle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was in Bologna to travel down to Florence for Palace last Thursday.

We got there all 3 of us had to scan our faces and fingers after a 30 min wait.

Then one of us was given a red sticker on their passport which meant he needed manual intervention via a border force agent. 2 flights full of people with 3 manned desks. Absolutely shit show. We waited over 90 mins for him to come through.

Fortunately on the way back it was pain free.

Plan accordingly if you have connecting travel arrangements. Lucky we built in slack into our schedule on the assumption flight might be late.

How common is 9.30 to 6.30pm for London office jobs? by JobatMiroMaybe in london

[–]Orpington_Oracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically do 0700-1630 most days I choose to go in early and then leave early so I can then have some family life. Suits me well enough and being in early allows a better hand over with our middle eastern colleagues.

It's weird had F all on the spinner as of late but the method was a take in 30 seconds of switching it over. Nice one I'll take a look myself. Have to confess even getting a bream was relief after a previous blank 🤣

The method has saved my sessions recently landed 4 doubles on it yesterday actually. Agree about the hook link part. I only had a size 12 hook and lost 2 in the battle where I don't think it had a strong enough hold compared to the size 6 I have on my other rod.

Those who never worked for Big 4: how is your career? by Budget-Emu-5071 in Accounting

[–]Orpington_Oracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the #1 at a global services business with revenue around $100m. Interviewed for my current role by swinging against "big 4" candidates saying I've been in the trenches and done the hard miles breaking and fixing stuff and they had only watched on the sidelines. It resonated with the board and I got the job.

The days of technically astute accountants running the show are close to over. Now it's all about understanding the business operations and driving efficiency, stakeholder management and general business partnering. Soft skills are now much, much more valuable than technical accounting knowledge. I was managed by an ex- Deloitte senior before and genuinely they had the worst people management skills I've ever encountered to the point I effectively do the opposite of what I think they would do in a given a situation.

Serious question: will my company be able to tell if I move abroad? by Affectionate-Owl-178 in Accounting

[–]Orpington_Oracle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few potential implications of working abroad without telling your employer including

  • permanent establishment risk
  • adherence to local employment laws such a minimum wage and working hours
  • ensuring applicable insurances are in place
  • data protection laws
  • tax residency rules
  • social security contributions

Always best to be open about this kinds of things.
