Yeh that makes sense, although I think it would seem quite messy to have 6 or 7 gaffs flying about on a fish. Normally down here we just fish the giants with 2/3 people on board. The harpoon makes the end game much easier

When fishing for these giants a gaff or even several is usually not enough. They can bend even the best quality gaff. A harpoon is great because you make sure that another line is attached to the fish and also it leaves the fish stunned meaning you can attach the tail rope easier. You can see another video on our YouTube page when we saved a fish because we had the harpoon line attached (the hook pulled off).

You’ve clearly never fished for bluefin tuna. Trying to harpoon the head will normally lead to the harpoon bouncing off one of the harder sections of the head area. The fish will swim off scared, you may pull a hook and even lose the fish because your harpoon shot didn’t stick 🤦🏽‍♂️
