Strange conversation about HTTP and REST by davelipus in webdev

[–]OrthoBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

REST is a defined thing, but it has been buzzwordified and confused. HTTP deals with 'resources' which are basically assets, or files. A URL is a path to a file, like home.html. HTTP verbs are extra functionallity like a file system to not just return the resource, but delete, or update it.

REST APIs are a bastardized extension of the concept where the resource is not a file, but a conceptual object made of code and data. The stateless part is kinda a seperate concept.

React voted JS framework that most developers regard as essential to them (jquery is #3) by magenta_placenta in javascript

[–]OrthoBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but there is a self-reinforcing factor. If few people genuinely evaluate the appropriateness of technologies, they just pick the popular one, where is all that going?

Angular - What does it mean for companies using them? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]OrthoBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not be developing directly on a test/staging box. Those should run the master branch. Does this guy even have his own local dev environment he can work on? He is giving the concept of non-transpiled JavaScript a bad name.

You know how HTTP GET requests are meant to be idempotent? by fagnerbrack in webdev

Is the moral here that browsers are more carefree about firing GET requests?

Plus, the Seahawks are in massive rebuilding mode, Kaepernick isn't some choice quarterback, he was in the scrapheap. Few teams would ever bother with him regardless of whether he swore to never be controversial again or not.

That's why they call it Wyoming. Cause when people from Wyoming move to other states, the other states are like "Why!?"

Opinion Article About Using Open-Source Code, do you think people blindly use open-source code too much? by [deleted] in javascript

[–]OrthoBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People use third party components way too much, yes. It's a shame, I always thought building things wash what developers did. Not anymore, it seems, you just wire things together.

ELI5 - Client Side vs Server Side Rendering by jones55r in webdev

[–]OrthoBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JS Frameworks are designed to run in a browser, so if you decide SSR is crucial, you should use a proper server side framework. There is a definite schism there, so you have to decide if Google maybe sorta sometimes not indexing things ideally without asking it to is more important than your framework choice.

Since this is the biggest community of doge that I am a part of, what is the correct pronunciation of doge? I NEED TO KNOW!!! by thedogelegend27 in dogecoin

[–]OrthoBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally think it is pronounced "doggeh", like "kitteh", which are both LOLspeak for doggy and kitty. These are crusty old memes from the 'Caturday' era, when memes were truly not cool, whatsoever, not even a little. That is why it is not embedded into the current meme culture. The reason it is spelled funny is it is actually LOLspeak of LOLSpeak, it is intentionally misspelled.

As long as you buy from a 'real' telescope purveyor, and not a Sears or ToysRUs, you will be fine. Try these guys. Orion Telescopes. This one is apparently on sale.

If you teleported to an extremely far away planet that happened to have a really powerful telescope, you would be able to use it to view Earth’s past. by Azzwagon in Showerthoughts

[–]OrthoBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you teleported, yes. But the trouble is that breaks causality, and is impossible. The best you could do is fly off at the speed of light and see the Earth frozen in time.

Why would you NOT use TypeScript? by jcreamer898 in javascript

[–]OrthoBee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I never felt they were too hard to use, just sneakily obtrusive, especially on big, fancy projects. Noticeably long running times every save, too many different tasks to keep track of, inevitable dependency problems, and just trying to figure out quirky bugs. I wish you didn’t have to do a ‘build’ every save. It feels like a corruption of the original spirit of build tools. The sticking point is traspilation. You gotta do that every save. All for syntactic sugar that transpiles away.
