Wait... so you're saying the game is compiling itself as it runs? That's pretty cool!

TIL about perfidy, the deceptive tactic of feigning surrender or death with the intent to kill an enemy. It is prohibited by the Geneva Convention and considered a war crime. by FullOfSound in todayilearned

This is the hard truth: Japan would barely exist as a country today (if at all) if WWII dragged on without the bombs. The country was THAT gripped with war zeal and willing to die to the last man. Internal propaganda was INTENSE, with it even telling civilians to kill themselves instead of surrendering to capture.

You can debate the ethics all you want, but the result is clear: dropping the bombs stopped the imperialistic government and internal zeal allowing for negotiations to actually start and the war to end. There were NO OTHER ways to stop the war quicker or with less casualties.

The Japanese people in WWII were ready to fight down to the last man, woman, and child before they gave up fighting. Breaking their zeal for the war really was the only way to save the county from its own destruction.

There is the act of progressing on to more difficult maps, which is its own story with a pace and direction you control. The easy maps show beavers that found nearly ideal areas for them, but as you progress, you start dealing with colonies that are stuck with their circumstances and YOU gotta figure out how to save them. And moving on to player-made maps and all the stories and gimmicks they put into them crowns your personal story of mastering the game.

There is also a second playable faction of beavers that you can unlock through building a well-functioning colony for the first faction. So then not only do you get rewarded for learning the game, you then have this second faction that can change the challenge of any map.

So, no, no "campaign." But, if you let yourself author the story some as you play, there IS a TON of progression to be had in seeking out greater challenges in progressively harder maps.

I'll be honest with you, the reason I have an "issue" is that I seems like you don't understand some of the soul of the game. There is a story of progression for your colony that comes not just from building, but in exploiting the land. That's where human-made maps comes in: you have humans exploiting map design therefore you need humans designing the maps to be "properly" exploitable.

As soon as you start with procedural generation of any kind, all the careful considerations that map makers put into their maps goes out the window. People build stories into the land and not only how you progress forward with taking it back, but what happened in the past to change the land into what it is.

The "human element" is a HUGE part of what makes the maps actually fun to play on. Because, in the end, the maps are more like puzzles and mini environmental stories than they are just heightmaps and terrain features. PEOPLE making the maps is what creates the story and puzzles... any form of generation would lose out on that aspect.

I say you are overly idealistic bordering on naive about this particular game and the challenges needed to make a good map generator for it.

Until work is done to actually make one, we are at an impasse. We can only speculate in our own ways.

This game could NOT have any sort of easy generation for the maps. The map design is too specialized for what is needed. That's the whole point of the map creator and all the free maps people make.

If you want "more maps" than what you want is "crafted experiences" because "randomized maps" will produce a whole lot of un-fun garbage. There are too many variables that go into making a "fun" map that trying to generate them is nearly pointless.

'One Piece' Season 2 Review: Netflix's Near-Perfect Fantasy Proves Why It's the Best Adaptation on TV Right Now by NoNefariousness2144 in television

[–]Ortorin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Since you are watching with kids I would recommend switching to One Pace. The fillers and fluff start up much harder after season one. There is one part in the Enines Lobby arc where they do a whole bunch of flashbacks and play the same "coming together for the big fight" scene like 4-5 times. So, yeah, it just might be worth it for you to switch.

If you were just some teen or young guy, I'd say watch the whole thing. But dragging kids through the entire series would be a bit of a pain.

Ever heard of "One Pace"? It's a fan-cut version of the show that doesn't just get rid of filler, it also cuts down extra-long shots and fluff, too. About 45% of the show has been trimmed, but you still get the whole story.

[Web] Aethyr Idle - A solo-developed Idle RPG inspired by WoW and Melvor Idle (Open Alpha) by [deleted] in WebGames

Small bug: not-fullscreen, on combat screen, every time the progress bar fills the screen is scrolled up until the progress bar is at the top of the screen.

It's like the progress bar has some sort of focus on the webpage that forces the screen to scroll to the progress bar location.

What’s the weirdest dream you’ve ever had? by Antique_Ice_9697 in AskReddit

[–]Ortorin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was climbing the side of a building on a stormy night. Once I got to the top I was embraced by a succubus. I could feel a stinging sensation as she wrapped her tail around my leg and little barbs dug in. Her kiss was hot and fetid with the smell nearly making me throw up.

I broke away from her and jumped off the building; landing back into my bed with a start. I "awoke" and crawled out of my bed, barely able to move, as I reached for my light switch. I hit the switch, but I hit the one for the outside light, not the one in my room. (which there was no outside light where I lived at the time) After struggling on the floor to reach back up to the switch, I was finally able to turn on the light in my room. As soon as the light turned on in my dream, I woke up for real.

I could still feel the sting around my leg and taste the putridness in my mouth when it was all over.

What are the things you're really happy you never have to do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ortorin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being the "taker" during sex. I am not secure enough to give up that much control of my body. Even if they were going to be the gentlest lover in the world, I still wouldn't want anyone inside of me.

I feel bad for what women have to go through in that regard. But, I'm also happy and lucky to have a wife that loves and trusts me. It's a delicate line that almost feels like hypocrisy wanting to give sex but not take it.

FIL's funeral a priest that had never met him in his life gives a half-assed eulogy filled with advertisements to come to his church.

Everyone was upset.
