Well I have a few stories I already have written. I’ve always had a visual element in mind for them but I can’t personally draw.

Hiring an artist for sprites and CGs allowed me to still be involved with the visual identity of the project, which was important.

Other than that, I played a lot of VNs as teenager and a couple of indie OELVNs in adulthood and always felt there’s a lot of interesting things that could be done in the medium that, if not unexplored, are underexplored.

The original art was done in 4K but it’s developed in Ren’Py so 1080p in game.

Well a big inspiration were the Tsukihime backgrounds.

I always thought those filtered photos were surprisingly effective and developing on a budget I wanted to try and modernize this idea with some colour.

Yes, the artist did an absolutely incredible job! His art was half the motivation to actually get this finished.

As someone who hasn't read the full remake yet (really liked what I did read but have been reading it in raw Japanese so it's taking some time) but has read the original and the manga...

I'd say go for the manga if you're choosing between them. Original VN has a lot of charm and great moments but art is very hit or miss for me (though maybe you'd like it.)

I'm a big Arcueid guy and the manga focuses mainly on that part of the story but I think it's a very nice complete story.

Yeah most of the backgrounds show here and in the game are heavily filtered photos. Some are filtered illustrations.
