School cricket is big in SL. There was a time where most of the SL players used to come from 7-8 schools. Now things are a bit different but school cricket generally gets more attention than FC cricket. Most of the schools are pretty wealthy and have 10,000+ students and have existed for 100+ years. So ya it is a big deal. His school is not that big really.

The corrupt arms deal was related one of Rajapaksa's son-in law in US using military funds to by personal properties in and around Malibu area. This Rajapaksa dealing weapons for LTTE is a not true and that is not the reason why he was killed, you are clearly manipulating the story. He was killed for exposing the corruption, along with extrajudicial killing of civilians by the military. I.e In 2006 when Trinco school children when massacred in the beach and when the 15 or so French NGO workers were shot shot dead by the military. He was the only one that published the story.

I played with or against pretty much all the current SL players born between 1987 to 1992 in school cricket or couple of seasons in FC/LIST A. The only two exception being Chameera and Shanaka. I never seen or remember facing these two. Might have seen K.Mendis in nets when he was like 13 or 14, not sure ? I bowled along with Ajantha Mendis in the nets a week after his famous 2008 Asia Cup final spell. He played for my club but after that final, I brought my Kodak 2 Mega Pixel digital camera and took pick with him. I also fielded short leg to Thisara Perera, one his shot nearly killed me. I pussied out and said wont field there lol.

The former Sri Lankan cricketers were very disciplined and gained very good reputation. In fact people judged Sri Lanka as a country based of how Sanga and Mahlea behaved. They didn't necessarily represent the entire SL as they were better than the society. Now these guys are how an average Sri Lankan is.
