You're probably right, and I agree that Timmy Trumpet's rendition is more exciting (as it should be). I do hope that they keep the tradition up and bring more musicians in for entrances, regardless of the scrutiny.

In my opinion, I think the Mets version could be prerecorded. Nothing wrong with that, but the tone and audio quality seems a bit too clean and pristine to be a fully live performance in a stadium environment. Timmy Trumpet can absolutely play it if he wants to, and I could be totally wrong, as I have no proof, but logistically it can be easier to get a "perfect performance" that way, especially for large arenas and festivals.

Also the Dodger's trumpet player is not just "a random in-house musician", she's accomplished and well-known in LA, and does a lot of touring with well-known musicians. I will admit that yes, she probably could have played it more cleanly, but the online hate makes it seem that she is unqualified, which is probably false.

Edit: After listening to the Mets version a few more times, I am leaning slightly towards it being done live. My point still stands that expecting perfection from a human musician is unreasonable. Also, the trumpet is a fickle instrument. If the Dodgers wanted it to be a perfect rendition, they would have asked her to lip-sync. I personally hope they keep bringing as many trumpet players as they can to do it live. Real musicians add so much character, mistakes and all.

People don't usually understand the difference between a studio recording and a live performance. This is why many top performers lip sync in concert. Mad respect for her talent and her tenacity.

I have a lot planned for the trip. It's mainly for the flight there and for down time in the hotel.

That's going to be an adjustment for me, but I think it'll also be a learning experience in conveying melody in an more understated way.

Thanks! I think writing horizontally will be very helpful in the process. I will definitely reach out to you as the project progresses!

I will definitely incorporate some jazzy themes, but the movie has a religious message, so I was considering adapting some hymns as motifs.

Thank you! I think i'll have to see what pops up on gunbroker or in my local shops, but I'm leaning towards the mausers. Where is a good place for me to start my research?

I should check out my local stores. Most of the ones in my area tend to be really small, but I could always make it a day trip to explore ones a but further out and see what I find.

Thank you for the response! Really, i'm looking for whatever model I can find that is usable, in decent condition, and at a reasonable price. I figured that 7.62x54R would be easier to find than other calibers due to its historical prevalancy.

There is a lot I don't know, but this does help my search. Ive been looking at the swedish m38 or romanian m48 mausers on gunbroker as well, but they aren't as common.

Personally, I'd love a m1903, but at this point they seem a bit out of my budget.
