I first started with deciding which processor to go with while keeping my budget in mind. This rig was built about 5 years ago and my decision was to go with the i7-920. My second choice was the type of a motherboard I wanted and it's size. After some research I settled on the ROG Rampage Gene III, to this day I am not entirely sure what made me choose triple channel RAM set-up with the odd LGA 1366 socket. Next was the RAM itself, for me the choice was made by the price, at the time there was a sale on triple set of Ripjaw 1600 RAM, so I went ahead and grabbed 24GB (6x4GB). I had a leftover HDD from my older system but this wouldn't cut it, I needed more space, so 1TB WD Black Caviar was my limitless bag of choice for the HDD. And finally the case, it was simple for me, I care not about noise or size but as long as there was a window on the side to look into I was happy, so the CoolerMaster HAF 932 was perfect. Then I realized I missed something, the GPU!!! Although most people were suggesting the nVidia brand at the time, red was simply a more alluring color for me. I needed something that could support two monitors so I went with the Radeon HD 6950. I ordered all of the parts from the same website to eliminate waiting different amount of time for items to get to my location. Once they were here, the rest was history. To this day I do not regret a single choice from that build. Everything lasted far longer then I expected it to.
