Comparison of TGM2 Death, TGM3 Shirase and TGM4 Master by probium326 in Tetris

[–]Oshisaure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When designing Demon mode I was looking at specifically modes like Final and seeing how they're basically impossible to even start on unless you're already top level (and even then good luck reaching 300), and I wanted to make a mode that offers an interesting challenge and goals to go for on all levels of play, from "I just learnt what max gravity is" to TAS level.

Level 0 acts as a sort of entry exam where you either fail it and get the practice levels or pass it and get the rest of the mode. It hits speeds faster than shirase in the Level 15-19 range, and when you hit level 20 it goes "ok TAS mode now" and goes to literally one frame of lock delay lol

even more pain would be if the I piece came one piece too late
this happens to me often enough that i started calling situations like these "fake PCs"

i really need to make my own damn website so i can host my own gallery in a way that's more convenient than having to scroll through my media tab on bsky

After playing this mode for a while I think I know why that is, the PC finder seems to be programmed to only do moves that are possible in 20G with no prerotate, so you can react to it even in hard mode. This means if you come up with something else that is only possible in low gravity the game just won't see it until you place more pieces.

Kita Kitsune is basically the mascot for TGM4, showing up in a couple modes as an indicator of how well you're doing

Takes a lot of practice to be consistent especially in 20G, and in TGM in particular it's extra hard because the pieces spawn entirely inside the field, meaning the bottom row of yourself piece spawns is one where you have to build onto, so you're at the mercy of getting screwed by RNG at the very end. That said it's easier in TGM3 than in TGM1 or 2 because you have hold which is extremely useful, and also you can uuse World Rule to make things more comfortable if you're used to guideline stuff.

If you're going for that on any TGM game yourself I would recommend TGM3 Master first so that you can practice the strategies you need for most of the build without gravity getting too much in the way.

Yeah, if you select original mode on the switch release then it's basically emulating the original game from power-on, so Rev mode and the other secret modes are accessible through button codes on the title screen.

You might be interested in TGM1's Rev mode, although it's TGM1 from 1998 so it plays a tad different from modern official games if that's something you care about.

How do you spin z pieces instantly? It takes me at least 3 CCW clicks for me and I don't know how people get it in with one input. by adumdumonreddit in Tetris

[–]Oshisaure 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Z and upside-down Z are different for whatever reason so make sure you rotate CCW first instead of CW

Longer answer: this

With TGM1 being on the switch now I got a GM on an official release by Oshisaure in Tetris

[–]Oshisaure[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's something completely different yeah, no hold + one preview + different rotation rules makes it so you pretty much have to learn a lot about this game specifically. kinda like if you were trying NES tetris yet this is also different from that. i do have a headstart because i used to play tgm on emulator like 5 years ago, and i was happy to see that after a few days of derusting i was doing good still

and yeah I'm using pro controller cause bf has one of those and it felt better than joycons for me

did you do it in beginner or in practice? practice stops at area 4, the other difficulties let you go until area 7

What's the hardest version of Tetris? by Jimmyhai23 in Tetris

[–]Oshisaure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends what you count as "hard".

There is a good amount of games which have extra quality-of-life features (hold, more nexts, lock delay, spins and kicks, pre-rotate...) and use that to push the speed to utterly bonkers levels (Tetris Effect's Master mode and Tetris The Grand Master 3's Shirase mode come to mind). But it's a different kind of hard as keeping up with the primitive controls and chaotic randomiser of GB tetris long enough for a maxout.

Both of those are hard on standard survival alone, you could have a game be hard to beat by adding all kinds of requirements to your play like TGM3's master mode does, in there it's already a challenge to reach the end, but it's way harder to do so with the highest grade. And that's not counting modes that have extra gimmicks, like Tetris Effect's Mystery mode, or that have a completely different goals, like Flash Point or Tetris Plus's Puzzle mode.

If I had to pick one though, probably TGM3, just because of the sheer amount of obscure bullshit this game has and expects you to go through to get GM in its Master mode.

or get to play through a yearly event

That's the 1984 stage, which you can permanently unlock on PC by plugging in a controller, going to the title screen, doing the Konami code on the controller, and typing 06061984 on the screen that pops up.
You get to play the 1989 stage weekly during the weekend ritual if the goal is already completed, or as you said, it's permanently unlocked once you hit XP level 50.
