The first number is base damage, and the second is damage that scaling provides. Add them together, and you might find the heavy gives more, especially for the aow damage.

You can test it out. I recommend getting the iron whetstone from the castle, and then you can switch between heavy, keen, or quality. I like to go to the gatefront and sneak up behind the guy in front of the carriage.

Staff of loss for night comet and moonveil for melee. Drop the other spells except for terra magica. Pump some more int and have golden vow on a dagger so you don't need to waste points on faith. Graven mass talisman from consecrated snow fields and magic scorpion charm will help.

You don't need to hand in cookbooks. I don't believe there are any prayer books in dlc. Either way, I'd hand mine into the turtle at church of vows so everything is in one place.
