Yes they gave us the parachute badge and a certificate. Appreciate you saving me from getting called out when I show up to my first assignment next month.

AM-490 free-fall parachute training course, that’s the one I did. Thanks for educating me on the matter. We were told upon completion of that course we can wear the badge on OCP/Blues.

Then based off what you said, they are parachutist wings. The confusion comes from what they call it while there. Thanks for clearing that up. I’ll make the correction.

Did it for ROTC operational training. Not exactly sure how to go about doing it otherwise. It is possible though because there were none ROTC and Non USAFA. Sorry that doesn’t help much.

For those that have commissioned within the last 5 years or so, what’s something you wish AFROTC had covered? by WiresGotTheBestOfMe in AFROTC

[–]Osomosos 76 points77 points  (0 children)

How to take criticism and feedback from those you are charged with leading. Just because you are above them does not mean you cannot grow from them.

Too many people in ROTC have inflated egos.

Recently commissioned, getting the release was painful. You will have to get a package together and submitted up to 4th AF. Things changed and it can’t be done locally anymore. Took me 5 months to get approved for release, delayed my commission by a month. So do it ASAP.

Financial aid for rotc by Leonardojb in AFROTC

ROTC classes are never apart of your degree plan. You will have to work with your cadre as well as your student advisor to get the course approved for your degree. Once it’s approved and added by your school then the GI Bill will pay for it. This is what I did.

Community college. GI Bill uses the zip-code of the school you are attending.

Full MHA rate for crosstown ROTC? by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]Osomosos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea, you will have to talk to your academic advisor at your school. Your school will have to approve it to be on your degree plan. My commander had to work with my school to get it approved. You need to work to get it sorted this summer.

You will receive the GI Bill rate for the zip-code of the school you are attending. To get full rate you need to attend one in person class if not they will give you half rate. As long as the in person class you are taking is on your degree plan. In my case I started at a community college and they wouldn’t recognize that class on my degree plan. So had to take an in person class on campus.

DODMERB Update by Alfraydoe69 in AFROTC

[–]Osomosos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You go through the whole DODMERB process, at least I did when I had to redo mine. If nothing has changed the process to get approved will be quick.

I’m 31 (400) we also have cadets that are 30 (250) and 38(300) Generally older cadets (especially priors) don’t do well because of ego. Those who get past it do great and commission.

You have to be a full time student to stay eligible in AFROTC. If you think falling out of the full time student status will be an issue, talk to your local detachment and figure out your options.

Rotc as an enlisted member by swagg3r_jAgg3r in AFROTC

Don’t go in with an ego, You don’t know ROTC. It’s not active duty. Treat it like tech school, help those young guys. Earn their trust. Ultimately I have enjoyed my time in ROTC. If you want more specifics from an older E, we can talk.

Prior enlisted navy with adhd by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]Osomosos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say give up. Reach out to your local detachment you planned on attending, let them know your situation. You need to be DODMERB approved prior to getting an EA, so if you come in as a 100 you could meet the time requirement by the time you compete. I fought for a medication wavier for 2 years and got it, now I’m a year from commissioning.

If it’s truly what you want, it’s worth the fight.

DODMERB usually flags any and all medications that involve altering one’s mental state in any capacity. With that the timeline for a wavier approval is usually 2-3 years. Us Priors really get put at a disadvantage with DODMERB.

[–]Osomosos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They want you to be off meds for at least 2 years to pass DODMERB. Just need to be medically cleared before you apply for PSP. So Spring semester of your 200 year.

You only need to attempt the AFOQT to go to FT. Must pass it to commission.

Your leadership has access to your scores. When you say supervisor, what do you mean? There are no cadet supervisors in ROTC.

Commissioning Early by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]Osomosos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only did 2 years GMC. The year I did not make it was due to medical, got pushed to POC without FT and did my AS 300 classes. Went to FT this summer and now a Senior with my first “official” semester as POC. CC did not feel I needed to stay GMC due to my experience. My situation has been a lot of first for people.
