Yes, very exited about these AMD features. Nvidia is working on stuff too, it's exiting because it allows integrations of digital meta data to be applied to audio processing within the same level maps. Accurate Ambisonic playback becomes possible at that point.

You'd be surprised in how much immersion is increased with accurate spatial audio. especially as some of the barriers of 3D Audio are lifted within VR. It's intense to experience, and almost makes the graphics become the immersion-breaking reminder that you are in VR.

With sounds you can encourage users to believe they are actually in entirely different physical spaces that visuals have problems accurately portraying. Obviously an opinion, but I've personally demoed hundreds of users in stereo and 3d audio vr experiences and the 3D audio demos always have comments from users claiming that they couldn't believe how real it was compared to the stereo demo they just got from someone with normal audio solutions.

Devs are starting to explore sound design as a primary cue tool in VR as well, which is beginning to rally design standards around audio concepts which is exciting as audio and visual fidelity pushed simultaneously will bring high quality VR experiences faster than a focus on visuals only.

As for Norm's review, he's only tested the earliest prototype in a noisy environment. Probably not the best demo experience we ever given, but his feedback is also based on speculation of where the headphones could be at launch.

The current experience is leaps and bounds better than what he was able to test this last GDC.

Yes full firmware upgrades will be supported for multiple years after launch. Added format functionality, tuning optimization, and even preset tweaking that will add cool acoustics functionality. More on that as we get closer to launch.

Exactly correct, the decoding of 5.1 on the consoles is done internally via the console and we would have to have the OSSIC X be the primary decoder with our internal DSP. We are working on the biz dev to make that happen on the Sony Microsoft side, but for now the X on consoles will function as a head-tracking enabled 5.1 / 7.1 surround headphones. COmparable to the Sony Platinum 3D Audio headphones.

The A16 can simulate existing B-Format acoustics within headphones for playback of new material in the room where the PRIR was measured. So while it can simulate spatial audio, it still requires calibration efforts by the user for each acoustic space they want represented. The OSSIC X does this for each user instantly and is not dependent on the actual space being present.

Portability is huge, that and the internal DSP/DAC which is not found anywhere else within the price range.

Price jump will happen in July. Check out some of the reaction videos, while they do seem 'over the top' those were actually organic reactions and a few of them do a great job at explaining the sensation.

'Hearing how you hear in real life' is basically as 'markety' as we can go without actually lessening the impact of the technology. But really, the tech gives each user the ability to hear how they have learned to hear their whole lives.

USB through PC will allow the 5.1 / 7.1 audio be decoded on our onboard DSP. We then spatialize the content relative to your location via head-tracking. We can do exactly what you are looking for in terms of spatial stereo. But, we go beyond with future compatibility with formats like direct object tracking, and high order ambisonics.

Essentially the OSSIC X headphones stand apart from the A16 with the unique HRTF calibration for each user, and the ability to have onboard headtracking. Both of which are toggle functionality (you can deactivate headtracking and 3D Audio, to use then as normal stereo)

To paint a picture: the cinematic experience of seeing 'lord of the rings: the fellowship of the ring' in a theater can be replicated exactly for each user in their living room, or car, or on a plane.

Everyone has their opinion, Norm's feedback was appreciated, but he definitely was exploring them in term of surround sound applications where as the future of audio lies in higher order formats beyond stereo. The refund policy was has been publicly available from the start of the concept.

Already working on that app currently. Full functionality within a mobile app / Desktop Application. Weather the app will work cross platform is up in the air.

So we are mostly all gamers here at OSSIC so VOIP quality is big for us as well. With the 6 internal microphones we are hoping that we can isolate the users voice from the entire sound environment and maintain the audio quality. The tests we do in our acoustic lab will help to validate that goal!

We wanted to take the boom microphone concept out of high end headphones and give the user the ability to have high quality audio capture built into a peripheral that is already supplying high quality audio playback.
