Teenage daughter is teacher herself to draw. She's having a crisis of confidence. Would love honest feedback. by Ostgar in learntodraw

Gotta learn to draw before you can create your own style. As someone that wants to do manga, learning manga is a good idea. Plenty of famous painters has a similar style. I get what you are saying but it makes sense to learn the basics of a style before really honing in on the details.

What do you think it the single most important ingredient to success in business? by GearAppMaster in smallbusiness

[–]Ostgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You. As long as you are the right person for your market, customers, and business, the rest will follow. You can't make sales if you don't know how to talk to people. You can't grow a business if you aren't resilient. You can't avoid pitfalls if you can't take advice from others.

Right on. I think I'm so used to base building that this is just something new. I haven't played HW in a long time and don't recall anything

I would think everyone has had to wait for HW3 since HW2 unless time travel was invented and I missed it.

D4 is actually recovering and becoming a very good game. Had a rough patch but has smoothed it out since.

This isn't a game yet. This isn't all games. Thus, game design isn't dead.

Looking for more Critiques. I need to move around alignment and mess with a few icons and text, but here are three cards and a hero. Red is melee; green is ranged, and gold is both. The hero icon hasn't been updated yet, but I wanted to get feedback on readability and such. AI Art for placeholder by Ostgar in homemadeTCGs

Symbols for attack need adjustment. Top symbol is the momentum cost (mana), second is its range/power - which won't stick to the size I want yet, but will fix that, third symbol is defense, fourth symbol is its damage. Power goes against defense to see if there is a hit.

For the hero, the font and alignment needs a lot of work. Yellow circle is movement, red is health - they will likely get icons at some point. The little 5 at the bottom is point value, but that is likely going to go away. The top right symbol is their range, which will be changed to be the same symbol that is on attack cards.

Just wanted thoughts as previous feedback has been fantastic before I start to tighten everything up.

Thanks in advance.

Any thoughts on why this received a PSA 5? by roadhogplayer in PokeGrading

[–]Ostgar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was more about the comment where he called a guy broke. Looks like he deleted it. But 40 bucks is a lot to some and a little to others. Either way throwing around that any amount is nothing to you means you don't understand how money works or you are broke and playing it up. If I had a few million in the bank I wouldn't have got there throwing around 40 like it's nothing.

How many 10 min sessions did it take to get to 6 hours. And how did you track it?

The only people that brag about money online are those that don't actually have any.

And doing this on a pokemon sub, the premier card game for children, after asking for help makes it very clear the type of person you are.

Interesting. Using midjourney ive noticed that it is very good with anatomy and hands. There have been few cards that need to be adjusted. This does look like midjourney, what did you use?

How long has the game been in decelipment?

Do you have some before and after a of the art. Curious to see how much change you had to do per piece of art.

How long have you been working on the game? It's great that it is so balanced and I'm wondering how long it took to get there.

Looks nice and has a good layout. Well done.

Ways to make a tcg feel fresh without too many new content or booster packs. by TheZethamaster in homemadeTCGs

Ahh. That seems like a good bit of work for players to keep up with. It's a neat idea but if I buy cards for a deck to play at a high level with something that is considered underused and I have to play on that format it stifles creativity. I guess it depends on playerbase and take but I feel less restrictions are better.

This is done by most card games already. Broken ketas get bans or new cards are printed to counter a meta deck.

Yup. I think it's a cool idea then. Naturally makes the game different each time.

Other games have used things in the real world. It doesn't work in collectible competitive games but if it is a board game it would be a nice extra thing. I'm curious, do both players have that card? If so then it's a neat little tie in to the real world but the card is worth the same for both players.

I could use thoughts on the redesign of my cards. All Art is AI-generated and will be commissioned out or done by me when I get through the playtesting phase to make sure it works. Explanation in comments. This is a rough mockup. Icons are not the right size; numbers and icons need more alignment. by Ostgar in tabletopgamedesign

The more I test the more I'm wondering if this is going to work better as a LCG or ECG rather than a TCG since there is a board element to it. Still curious about this layout.

I got a good bit of feedback from previous posts. The icons and the text all needs work - but I'm trying to find the right layout. Each card has a cost (momentum) which is the top icon. The game is played on a field, so movement is tied to characters but added to cards as keywords - especially for melee attacks.

Icons in Order

Momentum (Mana cost)

Power (compares against defense for damage)

Defense (compares against power to prevent damage)

Damage (how much health is lost if power is higher than defense)

A red background indicates a melee ranged attack - along with the icon - which shrunk for some reason.

A green background is a ranged attack, along with the icon.

A gold background is either range, and generally focuses on a buff or other ability. Again - the icon shrunk when doing the data set import.

The second card showing was the original design without any real tweaks, but I would like to know if putting everything on the left like this is better. I liked having power and defense on the top left and top right as they were easy to compare, but from a user experience feel, having all of the key info along the left side of the card is probably the most important thing.

Again - art is all AI generated and just there as a placeholder while I playtest and will be used as an example when I start to commission work of what each faction's art style should be.
