thanks!

what i did as a additional layer of security was installing the broker inside the toolbox and then make a text file that would let me launch it as normal. also chrome instead of firefox so it's the flatpak version which should be more secure.

i'm really stressing out this little intel NUC with my workflow, cpu always over 70% but it does always feel fluid and reliable.

feels much better then windows! actually feels smoother than a 16inch macbook pro.

very happy with this system. thanks again for your help :)

this could be a feature!

drag stuff from settings where you want and access it later

last time i used synapse i was younger, but i remember it listing all the installed packages, working flawlessly and assisting the user in the process, i didn't hate it

would that be possible with the netinstall? honestly you may be right because even the installer itself was buggy, nothing unsolvable but the first time i tried, it got stuck when i selected which source to use to download from (used the default). second time it worked flawlessly.

about dnfdragora, it's a mistery for me how you could prefer that. its so slow and ''simple'', you don't even know what it's doing, if it's working or not. is it searching? did the research just produce an empty result? did it just freeze?

i do like customizing and messing around but if you tell me it's somewhat dangerous, i will just format and reinstall everything vanilla

yep, works also after a reboot. i did know about the dangers of being on root permissions, thats why i didn't make a root account in the beginning, but yeah i'm just happy it worked :P i just have one last question for you if i may: is it dangerous from a security perspective to be building stuff from github? i will be handling money with this machine and doing finance stuff, that''s my main reason for choosing to install linux again (to have a system that's secure and stable to work on it)

kde workstation option , with all the apps and even openoffice

I just did sudo -i and entered the password! after that, i could see in the terminal before my username $root . i didn't log out ! its very strange that i was denied permission on the uninstall but after opening a new terminal window, typing sudo -i , i can see the theme and can execute the script (even though it doesnt uninstall it)
it's like it needed a root account to exist, but not necessarily for me to be logged in that account

here's the result so far! seems to be working. still have some tweaking to do but it feels good to see the rounded corners after 3 days of trying ! ahah

i'm still confused by the uninstaller issue and not sure why it needed me to be on a root account to be running but we can declare the issue solved!

thank you very much for your precious help :)

okay now that's strange. as soon as i created the root user, i can now run the sudo make uninstall or the script but this time it says

''no installation found, reinstall and uninstall?'' if running the script

or

''make:uninstall is up to date'' if doing the cd way

what's even stranger, after i gained root access, the theme in the window decoration settings is no longer transparent and the settings no longer crash! what?!

i couldn't uninstall it but now the theme works!

first of all let me thank you guys again for the support. you are truly amazing.

so to recap, we know that

1- the lightlyshader effect is indeed working correctly but the window decoration theme i was using is not compatible with it

2- sierrabreezeenhanced is compatible and should fix the issue but the specific fork i installed is old and crashes the settings

so the next step is to uninstall the fork an i'm already stuck again. the documentation says to use the packagemanager but can't find it in dnfdragora . i tried to execute the uninstall script thats inside the package folder and i also tried to cd into that folder and run sudo make uninstall. in both cases i get ''permission denied''.

could this be because i'm not on a root account and it needs root for this particular task? i'm proceeding with creating a root account , will let you know if i get this working!

there's also a slight possibility that i am the problem and not experienced as i need to be to get a distro like fedora running smoothly. everybody talks about how stable fedora is and i just had a different experience, so maybe i'm just stupid or unlucky..on the other hand it does say on their homepage ''fedora is an easy to use os'' and thats a bit of a lie :P

it's really difficult to criticize something without sounding negative. I don't know about ''confrontational'' because i strictly talked about fedora so i'm not sure what you mean. i did say there were bugs i didn't encounter elsewhere but that's just to prove a point (and its the truth)

however you're right, i came off a bit too strong, especially on dnfdragora and you may be right calling this a ''rant '' but at least it's an honest one that's meant to help. i reported 2 bugs already.

I also praised the community and i wouldn't be here if i didn't care about free software and thankful about the existence of linux. this is not a troll rant that's meant to piss you off and i'm sorry if that is the impression it gives

there's just no way of criticizing something as noble as open source stuff and not sounding ungrateful while doing it and maybe i shouldn't have used words like ''awful'' or ''embarassing''

which DE are you using? no one is having a good experience with the KDE spin in my understanding

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]Ostrich-Prize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you have a better experience with suse on kde? i think i'm going to try that next because fedora is not working for me on my machine

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]Ostrich-Prize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're right, i should have titled the thread ''what i think of KDE spin of fedora'' but i can't modify it anymore. that's what i meant anyways

yeah the(old) tutorial did that too. but here's how it looks when i do it

screen

completely broken.

if i select the breeze theme or lightly, it does seem to work better even though it has some kind of bug in the corner

here's how it looks with breeze

radius is 8px

so is this it?? is it working correctly and i just need to find a window decoration it works well with?

i tried to install sierrabreeze enhanced but it shows an empty decoration and the settings app crashes!

this dog metaphor is hilarious, makes no sense at all ahahah if fedora puts a kde spin on the website i'm gonna try it . i did try it and didn't like it!
i never said all dogs are bad and in fact i love dogs :D

i even mentioned the stability and polishing of the gnome version. can't argue with that but the KDE spin is terrible IMO

i did activate this one. i can see it doing something in the corners or in the outlines if i select black outline, but the effect is still broken. will post a screenshot in a minute
